A big thank you to Rubén Pérez-Carrasco from Imperial College London for his fascinating seminar at the Collaboratorium today! Thank you for sharing your exciting research and insights with us! #Collaboratorium #SystemsBiology #Seminar #Research

We had a wonderful symposium this year! On 28–29 September, the Barcelona Collaboratorium’s “Biological Time: From Molecules to Evolution” symposium brought us together in Barcelona at the brand-new, very comfortable MareNostrum Auditorium and Collaboratorium offices.

Jordi García-Ojalvo explored today how both multicellular organisms and simpler life forms such as bacteria use collective strategies to respond to their environment, that is a compelling perspective on the fundamental principles of living systems. Welcome back to the Collaboratorium!

Thank you to Miguel Bernabeu and host Kristina Haase for today's Collaboratorium Seminar. A fascinating talk on how tumour vascular architecture shapes red blood cell transport, oxygen delivery and hypoxia in glioblastoma. #CancerResearch #Biophysics #PRBB

Maths and Numbers in Biology 🔬📊 brought together researchers from across Barcelona to explore how maths and modelling advance biology, from molecules to development. Thanks to all speakers, participants and IQSBarcelona for hosting! #MathsInBiology #BarcelonaCollaboratorium

Thank you to Rashmi Priya and host Alejandro Sanchez for today's Collaboratorium Seminar. Using the zebrafish heart, Rashmi showed how geometry, mechanics, and cellular adaptation shape robust organ development and regeneration. #Morphogenesis #Biophysics #EMBL #PRBB

Thank you to Martin Lercher for your Seminar yesterday. Martin showed how mechanistic models of microbial growth and AI-based prediction of molecular interactions can be combined to uncover fundamental principles of cellular function. #SystemsBiology #ComputationalBiology #AI #Collaboratorium

👏 Welcome to Burak Demirbas, visiting fellow from the University of Amsterdam for two months at the BCN Collaboratorium. His work explores antimicrobial resistance evolution in Candida albicans using computational modeling. #BCNCollaboratorium #UniversityOfAmsterdam #AntimicrobialResistance

Thank you to Carmen Miguel (@uni-barcelona) for an excellent Collaboratorium Seminar yesterday, hosted by Artemy Kolchinsky (UPF): Exploring how collective intelligence emerges from local interactions,. #CollectiveIntelligence #ComplexSystems #StatisticalPhysics #BCNCollaboratorium #PRBB #UPF

Thank you to Martin Weigt (Sorbonne Université) for a stimulating seminar at the Collaboratorium on protein evolution, epistasis, and generative models! Thanks as well to Mafalda Dias (CRG) for hosting and to everyone who joined us. #BCNCollaboratorium

We are pleased to announce our upcoming seminar featuring Martin Weigt (Sorbonne Université, Paris). 🧬Modeling Evolution in Empirical Epistatic Sequence Landscapes - May 7, 2025 at 10:00 CEST #Collaboratorium #SeminarSeries #SystemsBiology #Evolution #ComputationalBiology

Thank you to Leon Peshkin (Harvard Medical School) for his inspiring visit to the Collaboratorium, enriched with a certain touch of humor today! We had engaging discussions on reverse-engineering aging and pharmaco-biology approaches. #BCNCollaboratorium #SeminarSeries #AgingResearch #SystemsB

🔬 Our next Seminar at the Collaboratorium: 30 Apr, 09:00 (PRBB, Barcelona) Leon Peshkin (Harvard) on reverse-engineering aging via pharmaco-biology & model organisms. Hosted by Jeremy Gunawardena (Collab-UPF). Access by registration only for non members of the PRBB. 🧪

We were delighted to welcome Félix Campelo (UPF) to the Collaboratorium Seminar Series on 26 March for a talk on the biophysical principles of ER cargo export. Many thanks to Félix for this insightful seminar, hosted by Eric Latorre Crespo. #BCNCollaboratorium

We were pleased to welcome Thomas Surrey (CRG) to today’s Collaboratorium seminar. His talk offered a compelling perspective on mitotic spindle architecture through minimal self-organizing microtubule networks. Thank you, Thomas. Hosted by our Senior Fellow Eric Latorre! #BCNCollaboratorium

📅 26/02 | Meike Wortel (U Amsterdam/Collaboratorium) on frequency-dependent selection — trade-offs sustaining microbial diversity. Join us at the Collaboratorium! This year our seminar series is a success: come and you will meet the community, create synergies. #Microbiome #BCNCOllaboratorium

Jeremy Green’s seminar today (King’s College London), hosted by James Sharpe (Head of EMBL Barcelona), was a real success. See you next week with Meike Wortel (University of Amsterdam). #BCNCollaboratorium #EMBLBarcelona #CRG #SeminarSeries #SystemsBiology #DevelopmentalBiology

Join us for the second edition of 'AI and biology'! 🤖🧬 Explore how AI transforms biological research – from foundation models for biology to generative modelling. 10 – 13 March 2026 EMBL Heidelberg and Virtual Submit your abstract by 2 Dec: s.embl.org/ees26-02-bl #EESAIBio #AI

Today’s talk was a visual feast and genuinely fascinating. Gratitude to Dr. @Tim Liebisch and Prof. Franziska Matthäus for closing on a high note. “From images to mechanisms: quantitative analysis and modeling of multicellular systems” #BCNCollaboratorium #Imaging #Modeling #MulticellularSystems

This morning we hosted David Brückner (Biozentrum, Univ. Basel) — chaired by James Sharpe (EMBL Barcelona) — for a tour of self-organization in development via dynamical systems + information theory, with concrete case studies on organoids and gastruloids.

Today, Timothy Saunders (University of Warwick) explored how complex 3D structure emerges in skeletal muscle — revealing chiral twists, cell rearrangements and glass-like transitions shaping organ morphogenesis! Timothy was hosted by James Sharpe. #EMBL #CRG #Collaboratorium

Thank you to Anne-Florence Bitbol (Lausanne) for her inspiring seminar at the BCN Collaboratorium! Today was on how protein language models reveal coevolution, generate new proteins, and map interactions across the tree of life. 🧬#BCNCollaboratorium #Bioinformatics
