Responding to a new report on the deaths of care-experienced young people, our Chief Executive Lynn Perry said: "This devastating report must be a wake-up call." Every young person leaving care deserves trusted relationships & support. Find support here: www.barnardos.org.uk/get-support/...

"For too long, children have been put in harm’s way – left to navigate an online world, and the risks that come with it, alone.” - Lynn Perry, CEO The proposed ban on social media for under-16s aims to change that - and we welcome action that puts children’s safety first.

But this is a complex issue. Social media can help young people connect, learn and feel supported. Too often, children are exposed to harmful and inappropriate content from a very young age.

“We know parents are making major sacrifices to ensure their children can eat as well as possible within their budgets,” said our chief executive Lynn Perry. The latest @foodfoundation.bsky.social #BrokenPlate report shows healthy food is becoming less affordable. brnw.ch/21x3e8E

What young people see shapes what they learn. Today that comes from content, creators and culture. That’s why we worked with 12 young people across the UK to create ‘Call It What It Is’ - highlighting how misogyny and harmful ideas about masculinity shape real-world attitudes.

Children’s mental health is in crisis.🚨 We welcome the announcement a new cross-government strategy, but it must go further. That means: ✅ Early intervention ✅ MHST+ with school counsellors ✅ Clear, measurable targets Without decisive action now, too many young people will be left behind.

"I’ve worked with children and families for nearly 30 years, and in all that time, I don’t think I’ve seen things as tough for parents, especially new parents, as they are today,” said Juliea Morris, one of our Family Services Managers. More via @bigissue.com here: www.bigissue.com/opinion/baby...

“Families are needing to make decisions between whether to eat or being able to save up for visa fees, which then forces impossible choices that really impact children,” said Michelle Lee-Izu, our Chief Operating Officer - Children's Services. (4/5)

As decision-makers consider new policies across government, it’s critical that reforms meaningfully reduce, rather than entrench, child poverty. (5/5)

At today’s joint Education and Work & Pensions Committee oral evidence inquiry session looking at the government’s Child Poverty Strategy, it was encouraging to hear witnesses advocate for children in families subject to the NRPF condition. (2/5)

Children are being failed online, and the harm is happening every day. “Every day, children as young as six are being exposed to violent, abusive and dangerous content online, with the majority encountering pornographic content before they turn 18," said Lynn Perry, our Chief Executive. (1/3)

"This has serious and lasting consequences for their lives offline. “Making the internet safer for children must be the government’s priority – so we welcome their announcement that there will be a consultation into possible measures and the impact they will have. (2/3)

"Too many children are growing up exposed to harmful views about men and women that impact their attitudes towards relationships, sex and consent,” said Lynn Perry, our CEO. (1/2)

Poverty is stealing children’s childhoods. Too many are worrying about meals, bills and stress instead of school and play. On behalf of the 550,000 children set to be lifted out of poverty by the new #ChildPovertyStrategy, we welcome the Government’s actions.

But close to 4 million children could still be in poverty by 2029. Every child deserves the chance to dream, learn and play without poverty holding them back.

We did it! The two-child limit ends in April - a change we fought for, lifting 350,000 children immediately out of poverty. But the job isn’t done. The benefit cap still holds families back. With nearly 1 in 3 children in poverty, the government must go further.

The Chancellor has today announced that the two-child limit on benefit payments will end from April. We’ve been campaigning for this for a long time. It means we’re one step closer to a fairer system that supports all children in need, regardless of how many brothers or sisters they have. (1/4)

"Too many children have been going to school hungry, unable to concentrate and returning to a cold home at the end of the day. Up to 350,000 children could now be lifted out of poverty. (3/4)

“However, with one in three children growing up in poverty, there is still much more to do. We urge the government to be even bolder by lifting the benefit cap, which limits the support available to some of the families who are struggling the most.” Read more here: brnw.ch/21wXQNo (4/4)
