People overestimate what technology can do in a year and underestimate what it can do in ten. In 1996, despite AOL’s popularity, you’d struggle to show how the internet boosted profits at Coca-Cola or P&G. Today, neither could function without it.

Even though I suspected that it was coming, it sucks to actually see Bioware close. I first got into Mass Effect years after the original trilogy had come out, and it was honestly a bright spot during a tough time. It was only fitting that I got into Dragon Age when I was starting a new chapter.

I now have permission to share something I hoped would be revealed with much more fanfare I spent more than 3 years as one of the writers of #MassEffect4 It was one of the greatest privileges & GLORIOUS challenges of my life So when I say I am devastated by the end of #MassEffect I REALLY mean it

I had never seen more than a few parts of Spider Man 3 before. Finally sitting down and watching it tonight, I was thinking that this was way better than people thought when it came out... and then that third act happened.

I've become desensitized to the Emo Peter montage, so maybe I didn't judge it as harshly as I should have (even though Peter on Jazz Piano was a solid Jumping the Shark moment). Still, the point where it relt everything started going off the rails was when Venom and Sandman teamed up.

Everything starting with the Venom and Sandman team-up felt like Sam Raimi was just filming the first draft of the script (and first take on the scenes) with no notes and no edits, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's pretty much what happened.

Mostly- yeah, it was a matter of trying to do too much. Take Sandman and Gwen Stacy out, and you have the perfect set-up to close out the trilogy. All the pieces were there. Despite that, they were making it work up to a certain point before it all fell apart.

And I'll say, take out the part of Sandman being Uncle Ben's real killer, and you could have even made him work. I'll say it- the scene where he first rose out of the pit was beautiful. One of the best scenes of the trilogy.

something that occurred to me is, everyone knows it’s possible to become a musician with work and practice. but you can’t work on and practice music while staring slackjawed at your phone. the real promise of generative AI is the ability to ‘make’ ‘art’ without reducing your slackjawed scroll time

Finally watching the first episode of The Great British Baking Show. I declined to answer my wife's question as to why I'm laughing at Alison Hammond sneaking in a reference to Gary "bringing something extra to the lemon party."

Imagine if in the 1600s, Europe had invaded Africa with spears and bows while African countries were armed with muskets and cannons. That's essentially the scale of difference in military hardware between 1939 and the present day.

I'm not against AI use in coding. It would be really hypocritical if I was. I also know that corporate pushing for AI-first workflows is being done for its own sake with little regard for, or understanding of, how it's supposed to work.

Even more often, you can't figure out how to solve a problem without getting hands-on with it, and if you're outsourcing so much of the workflow to an agent, you're never going to get your hands on it.

All this is compounded by baby brains who don't know how anything work, but have been promoted up the chain anyway, who think the AI workflow means that everything can be turned around in a fraction of the time.

Having an AI workflow is not some kind of "easy button," it's more like having a junior developer under you that you supervise. This runs into an obvious issue where you need to be equipped to supervise a junior developer, or at least check their work.

Some people aren't equipped due to qualifications and experience, which the lack of hiring of new developers will only exacerbate. Many more aren't equipped to do so because there's a fundamental breakdown between the business and the technical teams.

Why would you kill off the Big Bad already? Why would you insert an arc with a character who reads like someone who writes Star Wars self-insert romance fan fiction? Why send these characters through a wacky casino heist that reads like an entirely separate movie?

One of my more unpopular-on-Bluesky takes is that JJ Abrams should have been in charge of the whole trilogy. Sure, he didn't have an overarching vision for it, but neither did anybody else, and the fact that he was tapped to clean up the mess left by The Last Jedi demonstrated that fact.

The thing w/ TLJ is that there's a good movie about Luke, Rey and Emo Solo in there, and the movie had its moments. Luke's explanation of the Force was the best I've heard, and threaded some really tight needles. Luke's Force Ghost scene was maybe one of the best scenes in the entire franchise.

They then decapitate the Republic and are now top dogs. Seems a little sudden, but moving on... There's also a Luke-like figure who gets the the Millennium Falcon. A big coincidence, maybe, but you could chalk it up to the force or whatnot. There's also some other companions who I'm not sure matter.

They're united with Han and Chewie, and the audience claps. Honestly? Fine. Still with you. We also learn that Han and Leia are divorced and Emo apprentice is their son. They reenact A New Hope, but not before Emo Solo slays his father. Again- still with you. It's flawed, but coherent.

It started out saying that decades after the events of the first three movies, Empire neo-Nazis organized under the command of a new Sith-like figure and his emp apprentice. With you so far. Also, they got a Death Star that put the original two to shame. Not clear how, but ok, this is a fantasy.
