Congrats to @atejadaarranz.bsky.social & the team for showing that Pseudomonas forms distinct subpopulations during infection, each damaging host tissue by a different mechanism. Toolbox: single-cell microscopy, 3D image segmentation, high-sensitivity mass spec: doi.org/10.64898/202...

When Pseudomonas is attacked, it strikes back! Outer membrane damage triggers a tit-for-tat T6SS retaliation via TagQ/TagR protein complex assembly, activating the PpkA kinase. Congrats to Maxim & team for uncovering this fascinating mechanism! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
In our new paper, we uncover how Burkholderia switches from antibacterial T6SS-1 to eukaryotic-targeting T6SS-5. Surprisingly, actively turning off T6SS-1 assembly prevents mitochondrial damage and apoptosis. Congrats @christy-chc.bsky.social and the team! link.springer.com/article/10.1...

New version of BacFighT6! sites.google.com/view/bacfight6 Diffusible toxins produced by prey to impact interactions of Attackers, Defenders and Prey! This can make #T6SS battles interestingly unstable. Like this simulation with no winner after 100k steps: baslerlab.github.io/BacFighT6/in... 👇
After another slight increase in the toxin production rate, you get a long battle between Attackers and Prey. baslerlab.github.io/BacFighT6/in...
If Prey produces enough diffusible toxin, they kill everyone. They pay a high price for synthesis and lysis-dependent release of their toxin. baslerlab.github.io/BacFighT6/in...

Big congrats to @atejadaarranz.bsky.social and co-authors on this paper showing novel insights into the resistance to #T6SS effectors and an unexpected link to antibiotic resistance! Thanks @nccr-antiresist.bsky.social for funding and supporting the collaboration with the Jenal lab! rdcu.be/eShqI
Update to BacFighT6, with presets for easy exploration of complex behaviors: sites.google.com/view/bacfight6 Try "battle royale" preset where prey (blue) produce capsule, attackers (red) move towards prey and feed on it, defenders (orange) retaliate! Took a while to eliminate the reds!
Happy to share our latest T6SS review: nature.com/articles/s41... Thank you, Jan, Danny (@dannyjamesward.bsky.social), Joana (@joanampereira.bsky.social), as well as reviewers and editors @natrevmicro.nature.com!
Major update to BacFighT6: sites.google.com/view/bacfigh... Simulate the role of motility/chemotaxis, capsule production, activation by autoinducers, contact dependent killing, kin-exclusion, foraging and more. Long simulations, extensive data import/export and analysis. Interactive Q&A!
Check out the NotebookLM powered interactive Q&A: sites.google.com/view/bacfigh... This is based on the scientific literature and the simulation code. Literature is cited in the help and the documentation. Extremely helpful!
To make our research more approachable, I used #Gemini to develop (mostly by #vibecoding) a simulation of #T6SS mediated bacterial interactions. I hope that you'll have as much fun as I have with this and that you'll learn something new! sites.google.com/view/bacfigh...
