An amazing lineup spanning Neuro, Cog Sci, and AI. Held in a Roman villa with an ancient aqueduct through it! It’s a unique setting to understand the latest and greatest from the three disciplines of intelligence. Come!

Their work has appeared in The Atlantic, Quanta, Nautilus, and MIT Technology Review, and in 2019, they were named an MIT Tech Review Innovator Under 35. Kim will give a keynote talk on neural theory day of our upcoming conference on the Mathematics of #Neuroscience and #AI in Split, Croatia.

Eve's work challenged the dogma that neural circuits were hardwired-that circuits could be understood solely by their connectivity and the excitatory or inhibitory neurotransmitters passed in between them. In fact, neuromodulators could reconfigure circuits to produce a range of different outputs.

Along with Larry Abbott she developed the dynamic patch clamp, allowing an experimenter to test how different currents affected the dynamics of neuronal circuits, before scaling up enough further to give the first theory of neuronal homeostatic regulation.

💥 Over the next five days I’ll be posting about a set of early and emerging pioneers in #neuroscience and #AI research! With over 500,000 citations between them, their stories neatly track the intertwined development of two of the most influential fields for the 21st century. Link below:
