SF Bay has a tiny, uninvited guest! 🦈 An invisible army of microplastics is invading from our tires, single-use containers & laundry. πŸš—πŸ₯€πŸ‘š Fight back: drive less, choose reusables & rock natural fibers! 🌱 Conservation begins at home. #BayQuest #SaveTheBay #microplastics #sanfranciscobay

Okay, so it's not marine science but singing sea shanties on a brigantine schooner with Cal Poly Maritime Academy cadets is still a pretty good day in the field! Happy Friday everyone!⛡️: @callofthesea #BayQuest #FieldworkFridays #CallOfTheSea #MatthewTurner #TallShip #SFBay #ExperientialLearning

🌊 Small actions, massive impact! 🌿 Sept 19 is CA Coastal Cleanup Day, the perfect chance to stop invasive plants growing out of control. Lacking natural predators, they crowd out wildlife. Join volunteers statewide to pull weeds and clear plastic. Let's help habitats thrive! #CoastalCleanupDay

While we love being out on the water, one of the most rewarding parts of our work is sharing what we discover with new friends right here in our community! πŸ‹πŸ’™ (Photo: Tabling at Call of the Sea's Tall Ship Festival with Allayne, Kiko the wonder dog and some Privateer friends) Happy Friday!

Our quest for the Bay's most invasive species takes us beneath the marina docks to a hidden habitat of marine life. Clinging to the underside of these structures, non-native tunicates and bryozoans are quietly crowding out our local marine ecosystem. #SFBay #MarineConservation #InvasiveSpecies

🚨SF Bay Alert: Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) are active. πŸ‘€ SPOT IT: Water like spilled paint (green/red), thick scum, or foul odors. πŸ›‘ STAY SAFE:β€’ No swimming or boating in murky water.β€’ Keep dogs away; rinse them immediately if exposed.β€’ Don't eat local fish/shellfish. Report sightings! 🌊🐢

🌊 SF Bay is a vital stop on the Pacific Flyway. Millions of migrating seabirds rely on our healthy watershed to rest, refuel, and find shelter from harsh storms. Local actions protect these global travelers. Let's keep this critical habitat and it's annual visitors thriving! πŸͺΆ #pacificflyway

Healthy watersheds protect SF Bay by filtering pollution, sustaining wildlife & preventing erosion. We can all do our part to protect this vital ecosystem by picking up pet waste, using native plants, reducing plastic & joining cleanups. Let’s protect the lifeblood of the Bay. πŸ’™ #BayQuest #SFBay

We were so delighted to help celebrate the 30th anniversary with the amazing crew at Friends of Sausal Creek! πŸ’š 30 years of dedication and stewardship of this special watershed is an incredible milestone. A huge Thank You to the entire team for such an incredible legacy!🌿 #BayQuest #SausalCreek

🌊 SF Bay is one of the most invaded estuaries. Invasives like Water Hyacinth, Spartina & Wakame choke native life & destroy habitats. Help stop the spread: 1⃣ Clean, drain & dry watercraft 2⃣ Never release aquarium plants 3⃣ Volunteer with local conservation orgs Let's all protect our Bay! 🌿

🌊 In the SF Bay, 250+ invasive species make up 90% of the biomass in some areas! πŸ¦€ Shellfish like the overbite clam hitchhike in ship ballast water and starve native wildlife. Help stop the spread! Remember to Clean, Drain, Dry all boats, kayaks, & fishing gear before changing spots. πŸ§ΌπŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

We get to use all kinds of cool gadgets to figure out what's happening in the water beneath the boat! (Photo: Preparing to deploy an EXO2 Sonde CTD that measures salinity, temperature and dissolved oxygen as part of our SeaSounds Project - courtesy of the San Francisco Estuary Institute)

As an organization comprised mostly of working captains and professional mariners, we mourn with the families who lost loved ones in the recent tragedy on San Francisco Bay. We salute the first responders and recreational boaters who assisted in the rescue effort. Stay safe out there!
