My first five TTRPGs in the order I played them: 1. D&D (Holmes) 2. AD&D 3. Traveller 4. Gamma World 5. Champions Villains and Vigilantes was soon to follow (we found it easier to deal with than Champions).

But... what happened to "If you're not doing anything wrong, it shouldn't be a problem" argument? Or does that only apply to us and Flock (and other surveillance) cameras?
So... the problem is teen pregnancy is down? Is that what this motherfucker is saying? That teen pregnancy being down is a problem?!? What the hell is wrong with American conservatives?
Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”
He's got a point - if you can't convict the practical result of a third (well-deserved) impeachment is minimal. Fortunately, the House has multiple committees to move forward on multiple fronts. I want to see him impeached - but it doesn't have to be first on the schedule.
What do you think Democrats should prioritize, folks?
Idaho's religion-influenced public policy is messed up. Their "right to life" oriented abortion bans keep doctors from helping miscarrying mothers - yet their concern for babies/children ends if the reason for their dying is for faith in Jesus.
If you are a sick adult and you don’t seek medical help because of your religion, that is called stupidity. If you are a parent and you don’t seek medical help for your sick child because of your religion, that is called homicide.
I posted this change to how the Sanctuary spell changed from 5e to 5.5 (2024 rules). It also applies to hidden characters and characters under the Invisibility spell. What it means is that you can now grapple someone in D&D and NOT break your hide conditions. That's... not a good rule.
I've run a lot of D&D over the years and I'm running 5e.2024 now. And while there are a lot of good changes in the 2024 rules for 5e, there are some changes that are mysterious and maybe even boneheaded. The one I've most recently noticed is the change to the Sanctuary spell. (1/6)
Remember when we were full of optimism that politicians might actually be held accountable for their sexual misconduct?
I guess James Arness is probably the most famous (though I believe he got drafted before graduating). But coolest, for those in the gaming industry, Greg Stafford.
Who’s the most famous alum of your college? For me, likely Jerry Springer or Newt Gingrich. Andrew Breitbart was in my graduating class. (I didn’t know him.)
This is some EPIC gaslighting considering 5 of the 6 conservative justices are confirmed members of the Federalist Society - an organization formed to overturn the legal decisions expanding liberties and civil rights in the 20th century. They are INTENSELY political.
NEW: Chief Justice John Roberts bemoans that Americans don't understand how the Supreme Court operates and see justices as "political actors". The court at times simply has to make "unpopular" decisions, he adds: www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...
Thank you, Governor Evers, for continuing to protect trans kids.
"Elections matter". That's fucking rich coming from from a senator implicated in the January 6th conspiracy to present bogus electors.
CUOMO: 'Good guy' is not good enough when it comes to running a govt agency. Would you say the same thing if he was going to run the Fed? RON JOHNSON: He's succeeded at everything in life. He owns a ranch. Elections matter.
Your pretty much daily reminder that every accusation is a confession for MAGAts.
Hegseth: "Iran should be an energy-rich country. Instead, like so many other places driven by a radical ideology, they've spend that money, instead of investing in their people. That's why you had millions of Iranians protesting."
The text for the spell ending in 2014 is: "If the warded creature makes an attack, casts a spell that affects an enemy, or deals damage to another creature, this spell ends." That reinforces the idea that the Sanctuary protection enables non-violent action including healing allies with spells. (3/6)
Depends on the felony for me. If they were convicted for encouraging people to burn their draft cards (Eugene Debs), that might be worth a vote. That's standing up for anti-imperialist war principles. But 34 business fraud felonies SHOULD be disqualifying for a job that's supposed to have integrity.
Anyone who voted for a literal convicted felon gets ZERO say on who is legal or illegal in this country. You lost your seat at the grown-ups’ table, Bubba.
Yeah, have you SEEN this guy's burritos? I shudder to think of them. The horror. The horror.
Re: the discussions up and down my timeline today, let me resurface this essay I wrote up about 18 months ago, about the perils of idolizing creative people, up to and including me. Some of you may remember it, but many of you weren't following me then, so. whatever.scalzi.com/2024/08/15/p...
It was a great ad. But what are you going to do for us in 2026, Apple? Or was standing up to a tyrannical Big Brother just hypothetical?
If I had the time, I'd like to draw that Apple "1984" Super Bowl ad - where the runner comes in and throws a hammer at the towering image of "Big Brother" - but this time, Tim Cook enters at the end, patches the screen back up, and apologizes for the audacity. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErwS...
Hate the surveillance state? I don't think so. It's always been about WHO was being surveilled. J Edgar Hoover and his COINTELPRO programs, the PATRIOT Act, the GOP has been as surveillance-friendly as anybody else... as long as it's the other guys being surveilled.
Republicans used to hate the surveillance state.
AKA "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." That was a great statement and Mamdani does well to echo its sentiments.
Despite what we are often told, this line from Mamdani’s inauguration speech is what true pragmatism actually looks like: “Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed. But never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”
That's one of the problems with most health care insurance options - you're stuck in a network and can't just pick any specialist you want. Medicare allows you to pick anyone*. Single, national payor - it's a way OUT of restrictive networks. *Anyone who takes Medicare payments at all, that is.
Who chooses their own specialist? Your primary care provider refers you out for a procedure, you call and schedule it, your insurance company pre-authorizes it (or denies it), and the procedure is performed. I have never looked at a list of specialists and picked one out of a line up.
