Checkout our new preprint 🔬! An eye-opening analysis detailing the adoption of bioimage-analysis tools in microscopy, curated with Bruno Saraiva and @henriqueslab.bsky.social – a thread 🧵: preprint: doi.org/10.64898/2026.10.21.760457 github: github.com/HenriquesLab/mapping-bioimage-software

"What I would like to see is to find a new model where people working on open-source would be awarded for their work and the hours and hours they put into it from the people who most benefit from their work" That's what we're here for! Drop us a line to join as an affiliate ✍️

An unsung #Czech hero who saved the Internet yesterday. Excerpt: "When I started doing open-source, it was fun. And it kind of still is. But the environment has shifted. Open-source sometimes feels like exploitation."

Your periodic reminder that freedom isn't free. "While essential for getting started, grant support is not a sustainable long term solution for funding daily operations."

Thanks to scyjava, BeanCounter.ch vouchers are trivial to integrate into Python projects. Coming soon - @napari.org plugins! Drop us a line if you're interested to join as an affiliate and get paid when your plugins are used.

Research software is costly and time-consuming to produce because it requires focused time from developers who have invested years learning to master their craft, just like art. There is nothing to celebrate about relinquishing intellectual expertise and mastery in favor of fast and cheap.

📢 Just added: a special voucher type for developer affiliates to use in their CI/CD pipelines. Drop us a PM if you'd like to join as an affiliate and start getting paid (in real money 💶, not crypto, Brownie points, warm fuzzies or good vibes) when people use your software.

🎉 Big news is coming. Next week we'll unveil a new name and brand identity for the Software Sustainability Institute that captures the work we do today, honours what we've achieved so far, and sets the stage for what's next. Watch this space 👀 www.software.ac.uk/blog/new-ide...
