In 2026, there is no fathomable reason that would make me check a box next to a republican candidate. I will vote democrat because I care about humans, science, vaccines, and a safer world. I will vote.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Prospective graduate students: OHSU has a thriving program in the biomedical sciences (PBMS). We accept students from multiple areas, including chemical biology. If you are interested in applying chemical probes to physiological systems, apply this fall!

Trump’s executive order on vaccines was based on “feelings”. In our new OpEd, @jimalwine.bsky.social and I share some facts about the numerous things that are wrong withTrump’s vibes-based EO. I am fairly certain that most of us would prefer health policy to rest upon scientific evidence.

progressive.orgTrump’s Vaccine Order Will Harm Public HealthIt's greatest immediate impact will be the confusion and chaos it sows among parents and caregivers.

Fauci's diary: "The POTUS called my cell & screamed at me because I had mentioned to the Press … that the duration of immunity for common coronaviruses was 6 mo to 1 yr and that … it is possible that we may have to use additional boosts." Fauci, the expert, was right. Trump was/is an irate idiot.

In 1863, Harriet Tubman played a key role in the Combahee River Raid. She was the first woman to lead U.S. troops in an armed assault. She helped free 750 slaves in that one event. Her story is exactly the American history that Trump and Hegseth want to erase. She was a true American hero.

Thank you for putting this project into context. Even without your thoughtful explanation, it is safe for us all to assume that peer-reviewed, NIH-funded science is rigorous, significant, and impactful. That is how peer-review has worked for decades. This grant should NOT have been terminated.

My friend is a co-lead on this project (my wife is a collaborator). Let me tell you what it was about and why Battacharya’s decision simply amplifies the consequences of structural racism that the project was attempting to understand. A 🧵 1/12

Unacceptable. Peer-reviewed, funded grants should not be terminated on a whim.

OMB, HHS, and NIH_Leadership™ seem to think this is all a big game. They don't give a flying fuck about the taxpayers, research study participants, researchers, or anything else related to science in their quest to further their unrelated political agenda. 7/7

Scientists--if your funding was cut over the last year (for research on climate, global health, DEI, LGBTQ or womens health, etc) but you managed to keep the research going, I want to talk to you for an upcoming article! Plz contact me: gewin at me dot com. Re-posts appreciated!

I serve on NIH study section, spending considerable effort sharing my expertise on the most meritorious research proposals. I use my knowledge judge significance, innovation, feasibility, methods. The OMB rule change would enable that expertise to be completely disregarded in funding decisions.

I strongly oppose the OMB rule change. I do not believe in political interference in NIH funding and award decisions. We all benefit from the very best science getting funded. To be clear, I oppose the harmful changes being proposed by Vought and Trump. I won't be silent or self-censor.

I was just searching to see who commented... Not too late!! Please take a minute to express your concerns on this offensive proposal!!

I wonder if perhaps we all should aim to include at least 10 "banned" terms in every single NIH grant application. Flood the system.

This isn't "equal treatment," "merit-based treatment," or (to use the words that the Trump Administration has tried to turn into a cruel joke) "Gold Standard Science." It's just discrimination against minorities. open.substack.com/pub/27unihte...

I could add that I was a "lactating individual" and "pregnant persons" 2022-2023. "Diversity" seems the easiest to insert in a hundred places. As I posted before, my proteins are diverse.

I agree: we must question the censorship we see. And we must speak out. I haven't word-searched my grants, and now appreciate that this "self-censorship" is a real threat to free speech. "Diverse" is a common adjective in science, not an ideology. Read this👇 www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
