The project focuses on several cancer types that remain comparatively rare and understudied, including embryonal tumours in children, colorectal cancer in AYAs, and central nervous system cancers in children and AYAs.

Het kijkt naar het hele traject: van gezondheidspromotie en preventie over vroegtijdige opsporing, diagnostiek en behandeling tot nazorg, levenskwaliteit en de terugkeer naar het dagelijkse leven.

Het plan werd opgesteld in het kader van een nauwe institutionele samenwerking tussen de FOD Volksgezondheid, het RIZIV-INAMI, @sciensano.be, het KCE en het FAGG en is gebaseerd op een methodologie die steunt op de consultatie van stakeholders en wetenschappelijke evidentie.

Om een antwoord te bieden op de structurele uitdagingen van de kankerzorg, zoals de stijgende kankerincidentie, de toenemende complexiteit van diagnostiek en behandelingen en de groeiende nood aan geïntegreerde zorg, biedt het Kankerplan een geïntegreerd strategisch kader voor kwaliteitsvolle zorg.

Il englobe l’ensemble du parcours patient, de la promotion de la santé et la prévention au dépistage précoce, au diagnostic et au traitement, jusqu’aux soins de suivi, à la qualité de vie et au retour à la vie quotidienne.

Élaboré dans le cadre d’une étroite collaboration entre le SPF Santé publique, RIZIV-INAMI, @sciensano.be, KCE et AFMPS, le Plan repose sur une méthodologie fondée sur la consultation des parties prenantes et l’évidence scientifique.

Afin de relever les défis structurels liés aux soins oncologiques tels que la hausse de l’incidence, la complexité croissante des diagnostics et traitements et le besoin accru de soins intégrés, le Plan Cancer propose une approche globale du continuum de soins.

On 17-18 September, EUnetCCC partners met in Brussels for a 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 on the Survivorship Work Package. Our Supportive Care team organized the discussions around “𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱’𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀: 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻”.

Participants explored the 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, as well as 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻. Patient experts and patient representatives also brought 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 to the discussions.

Two days enriched by the 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 shared by the Saint-Luc teams, as well as by 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 presented by the JANE2 project.

On 28-29 September, partners of the #HOPE4Kids project met in Trieste, with our colleague from the Cancer Centre. This 4-year project aims to strengthen and harmonises paediatric palliative care across Europe for children living with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions.

Two productive days of discussions on the project’s objectives and results, with a strong focus on the resources needed for paediatric palliative care in Europe. @sciensano.be contributed by sharing data on the gaps and needs identified in the field.

A look back at the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺, held in Copenhagen on 21–22 September, where several colleagues from the Cancer Centre @sciensano.be had the pleasure of taking part. Two enriching days!🤝

We were also pleased to contribute by presenting the work of the Supportive Care team related to 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗦, the further development of the 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, and the work carried out within the 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗖𝗖𝗖 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸.

The symposium covered a wide range of topics, from cancer-related fatigue, physical activity and exercise to pain, sexual health and social inequalities, highlighting the many challenges that can shape life after cancer.

𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: ▪️ Look beyond individual symptoms. Symptom clustering shows how late effects can interact and accumulate. ▪️ Give psychosocial care a more structural place including in national cancer plans.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟮𝟰 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆.🌍 It is an opportunity to recognise the essential role of collaboration in research in advancing cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. In Belgium, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗕𝗲𝗖𝗥𝗔) is helping build this collaborative environment.🤝

BeCRA fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing, connecting cancer research with clinical practice. It also strengthens links between Belgium and Europe, creating opportunities to bring expertise and innovation to the national level.

Ultimately, the ambition is simple: to strengthen the connection between cancer research, healthcare and innovation, so that scientific progress can translate into better outcomes for patients. #BECancerCentre #CancerResearch #WorldCancerResearchDay
