The psychic precision is important here. We're sitting through a national processing process for one man's castrated shame and anxiety, which will never end: Ossoff understands that and communicates it clearly.

OSSOFF on Trump Address: At a moment when his war spirals out of control, instead of focusing on the nation's needs, as always, he nurses his grievances and he forces the rest of us to help him process his shame.

Faculty will be ”given a score between zero and three by the university” - unbelievable stupidity and cruelty, solidarity with comrades at Exeter

Andy Brockman@andybrockman.bsky.social

"The idea that people will be able to hold it together and deliver a term of teaching before they vanish off into the horizon, is bizarre, spiteful and naive as well.” The Times HE's punchy account of Exeter University's #BonfireOfTheHumanities & what one academic describes as "existential terror".

Ok, so according to the Union’s calculations, 27% of the staff in my English department will be made redundant

In case you didn’t know, Exeter uni, where I work, has announced a plan to make 25% of staff in my English department redundant. Left-over staff will do double the teaching while their research time will be shrunk to 1%. Meanwhile admissions for English at Exeter are HIGH, and on the rise this year

Just vis a vis the 25%. Mea culpa. In my delirium I took the number they gave us, 15.7, to be a head count. In my defence though the number is a really obscure way of stating the cut. It’s the percentage of 85% of 150 that are coming from my department; it works out as 10 of us.

solidarity from UEA where we went through this 3 years ago. the 3 campus unions did a stellar job then, ousting the VC, getting media onside and supporting alternative plans for budget management- a very long and hard fight and many still lost their jobs but it was a turnaround - good luck

Excited for our panel on modernism’s meanest: Laura Riding Hates You (And You, And You, And You, And You)

becimay@becimay.bsky.social

Speaking on the theme ‘Laura Riding Hates You’ at this year’s BAMS, alongside brilliant @kristingrogan.bsky.social & Christian Gelder 🖤✨🎉

Seems miraculous in the current political era that Polanski can succeed in being both a lightning-fast thinker and accessible, & hard-hitting and even populist without selling out 😍
