she's the first politician i'm aware of to make this observation. not some half-baked "it's powerful technology and we should should make sure it benefits the working class"--no. that's not what it's for. that's not the intent of the people who made and operate it. it's exactly as she says
AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"
i am repeatedly impressed by this technology's inability to make money. chatbots? nope. programming? nope. videos? nope typically, something this harmful at least makes for a profitable business. but here i find myself unusually aligned with the amoral capitalists asking, "where's the revenue?"
BREAKING: Anthropic reports an $80 billion net loss in the first half of 2026.
posting this here because i know many of you were fond of nibble, and some of you even got to meet him in person docs.google.com/document/d/e...
"the thing i'm good at is the thing that's most important" is a baby-brained take. you want your top time to be recognized? we have that, it's called a leaderboard. it doesn't entitle you to anything else an important and unrelated skill for people doing runs at events is being likeable
This was a legit public (thankfully rejected) suggestion made in the Super Mario 3D World server & I'm sorry but this is the most elitist and horrible take I've ever heard! GDQ and ESA are public submission events so making so only the top 6 runners can submit is crazy! (1/4)
hilarious decision from a company that regularly complains about profitability. openAI's sora video generation service cost them $15 million per day while earning them $2.1 million over its entire six-month lifetime. nobody will pay for this, and it will die
Twitch now uses your channel to train generative AI by default. You can opt out of some training here: www.twitch.tv/settings/sec...
the socially interesting thing about this is that it's a means of opting out without interacting with the mixtape system. to that end, if the mixtape people attempt to defeat this, they will demonstrate that they're completely unserious about respecting opt-outs
smwc.me/t/132967 Your ROM Hacks can now be protected from being MIXTAPE'd. You're welcome, @smwcentral.net and friends.
this fragment is doing a lot of heavy lifting for the story, and openAI helpfully omits the actual prompt text which is necessary to determine whether anything worthwhile happened
The cybersecurity-focused models, including GPT-5.6 Sol, broke out of a testing sandbox, exploited a zero-day, and gained access to the open internet to pull off the attack. www.wired.com/story/openai...
the failure of comrade general secretary altman's first five-year plan. openAI employees wait in line for hours for their ration of LLM tokens
"Emarketer’s data finds that standalone chatbots like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot app, Google AI Mode, and Amazon Alexa for Shopping (formerly Rufus) in U.S, will generate less than $1 billion in ad revenue this year, and just $5.41 billion by 2030" Lol www.adweek.com/media/openai...
a corporation, as enshrined in its charter, puts itself and its shareholders above its customers loss of control is the cost of many modern conveniences. DVDs sitting on your shelf and .mp3 and .mkv files sitting on your hard drives (back up your shit) are immune to this sort of corporate caprice
Fox Corp. has reached a deal to acquire the streaming platform Roku in an agreement worth approximately $22 billion

this is delicious. obviously sam altman is lying because his lips are moving, but this is an admission of the fact that openAI has tried and failed, for at least four years, to make their software efficient enough to be financially solvent
Sam Altman said AI budgeting has recently become a "huge issue" for some companies, something that "never came up" earlier this year.
whenever i read about the history of something, i eventually run into the new york times being wrong about it. here is them saying that you can't send a rocket to the moon because it won't work in a vacuum (lmao) web.archive.org/web/20080209... "In 1969, the Times retracted this editorial."
the new york times predicting that it will take at least one million years for humanity to develop a flying machine (the wright brothers flew two months later): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_...
if anyone has the time and energy to dig up a lawyer to sue for unauthorized use of likeness, i pledge $20k for legal fees. we can probably collect quite a few plaintiffs
Awful shit happening right now. These people at 101soundboard are taking our clips from twitch to make them sound bites in their site. Worst part is, they are also creating AI versions of our voices. This needs to be stopped, there must be a way
an overlooked consequence of codeslop is how long it takes to debug. there's an inverse relationship between how fast something is written and how well the author understands it. at one extreme end, if you didn't write it, you don't understand it but tell me more about how LLMs increase velocity
