Been messing around with the Draw Steel on Steam playtest for a while now, and it's honestly impressive. It automates almost everything, yet allows you to override and manually adjust as required. It's also easy* to code your own effects and content using its inhouse script UI/language. Good stuff.

...his inevitable breakdown into violence and betrayal. It was glorious, perhaps the best character arc I have written yet. All thanks to a single card that kept coming up. Hug the Crocodile, indeed.

During Rat Trap, the character of Jay was supposed to be a rival to Ash, both wanting to move up in the criminal gang they're part of. But Jay's scene were influence by the card "Hug The Crocodile" several times, causing me to change his character and story to that of a "real friend," a bit naive...

...but truly believing that he's not just in for himself, but that a rising tide lifts all boats. That, together, they are unstoppable. The card totally changed the character. And as it kept coming up just as the Fiasco got worse and worse, his eagerness to be a friend was met with betrayal and...

The cards just force you out of your comfort zone, let you think about your characters in ways you'd never even consider due to genre or plot biases you might have. Draw a "Zombies" card in a realistic heist story, and then what? The card would make you think about an unstoppable force...

...hungry to get to your protagonists, perusing them relentlessly. When this happened in my first Fiasco, Honeymoon, the "Zombies" where a brutal biker gang, hunting down the cast to without mercy. Sometimes, Zombies are Zombies, other times, they're cartels and bikers.

I've finished this sort of project twice now, each time resulting in a short novella. Both stories went places and explored themes I wouldn't have thought of, all because of the prompts of the cards, and the restriction and direction of Fiasco.

There's a third one in the pipe right now, with the larger goal of creating a sort of anthology of selfish humanity as a larger collection of these stories. Three stories of greed and trauma, three distinct casts of three characters trying to make it big, or at least make it out alive.

🚀 NEW GAME ANNOUNCEMENT!🚀 We're absolutely over the bloody moon to be making the Children of Time RPG! Mina, Grant and Elaine have been sequestered away with author Adrian Tchaikovsky, building a new Ark to take you to the far reaches of space. But what (or who) is waiting for you out there?

Hold on. One of my favorite authors @aptshadow.bsky.social and favorite sci-fi series, and one of my favorite game devs @rowanrookanddecard.bsky.social are coming together to make a TTRPG? It's like all my nerdy obsessions over the last decade paid off in one big glorious singularity. Wild.

Children of Time: The Roleplaying game, from @rowanrookanddecard.bsky.social, adapts @aptshadow.bsky.social's book series into a tabletop RPG spanning both tense moments and yawning eons. You won't have to include the uplifted spiders.

We’re sooo close to hitting our goal of 5000 followers on the Public Access campaign before launch. Help us out and please repost! A quote post with some positive thoughts on the game is a particularly big help! www.kickstarter.com/projects/gau...

kickstarter.comComing soon: Public Access Analog Horror Mystery TTRPGFrom the creator of Brindlewood Bay and The Between, Public Access is a roleplaying game inspired by analog and found footage horror!

This is it, the final piece of fiction of this writing project/solo play I did using @bullypulpithq.bsky.social Fiasco as the engine and the Writer Emergency Pack as the prompts. Was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Subscribe to the blog if you like to see more of my stuff. #writing #ttrpg

Rat Trap: The Aftermath After the dust settles, Bill, Ash, and Jay must deal with the consequences of their actions. What follows is a montage of their lives after the Rat Trap--a true fiasco.

Writer Emergency Fiasco: The Aftermath At the end of Fiasco, every player gets to roll the dice they have collected over the course of the game, tally them up by color, and determine their Aftermath based on it all. Let's take a look at how it all shakes out for Bill, Ash, and Jay.

I've been doing all my writing in Ellipsus, whether it's for my blog, game prep for my Draw Steel games, or anything else. Worth checking out if you're tired of being stuck in shitty companies' eco systems.

We don't want AI-generated stories. We want stories that are beautiful and weird. Mistakes and obsessions. Labyrinthine worlds; love poems that break us. We want the wild stroke of chance, the stray detail. We don't want soulless slop. We want work *written* by HUMANS.

Rat Trap 2-12: Post Script Jay's final scene concludes the main portion of this Fiasco. One last look back at the scene and how the card "Puny Humans" brought us to were we ended this story, before we head into the Aftermath.

The last scene of my Writer Emergency Fiasco, Rat Trap, dropped today. Combining the #FiascoRPG by @bullypulpithq.bsky.social with the writer emergency pack, the story ends with a bang … or does it? #writing #ttrpg

Rat Trap 2-12: Jay Lets Go Scene 12: This is it. Jay's at the end of the line, desperately holding on to control, and to his friendship with Bill. Can he find a way out of this, or is it time to let it all go?
