I’m a Kansan working as an environmental microbiologist far from home.

I love how the racism and xenophobia is always: “These dirty, lazy, stupid people are all better at navigating our economy than you will ever be. You strong, smart, harder-worker, you.”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Somalia -- 98% of the people here now from Somalia don't work. They don't have to work because they steal so much. They all have a Mercedes Benz. Low IQ and they live better than you do."

I worked one shift at a dogfood factory. I went home, put those clothes (that I got while working for several years at a wastewater plant) in a trash bag to throw out, and never went back.

I saw this and thought about how he won’t lose an ounce of support for his fuck up. Then it dawned on me how Kavanaugh’s confirmation may have been the turning point for the GOP. It was when they adopted the be angry and never admit fault, no matter how obvious tactic; and their base ate it up.

Has anybody checked on that lady who had to count her daughter’s cheese slices under Biden’s economy recently? I wonder how much cheese she buys now.

Which News companies are being banned? Is it the one that went to court a few years ago and used the defense that “no person of sound mind would think what we say is true”? No?… Interesting.

1. I don't think "Natalie shows the president some cable news clips and he gets mad" is a good way to do national security policy. 2. Trump does not "cherish" the "Free Press," he loves outlets that praise him and despises critical coverage. www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump...

One of the things that I hate about this )besides everything) is how even his excuse is a slap in the face of the Presidency. Like maintaining federal buildings is part of an administrations job. You don’t get extra credit for doing your job.

The worst human being to ever occupy the office. Just reprehensible scum.

The United States has lost our damned minds… Or we don’t actually want a trade deal so we can force ourselves further into isolation from the rest of the world. (Which still maintains my first statement).

Imagine the public outcry if Biden had said “it’s what they give me to read” about anything.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

"That's what they give me to read, so what can I tell you? ... I don't know what the hell that means" -- Trump is surprised by the stuff he's straight up reading from the text that was prepared for him

Until some Leftist Billionaire buys a major news network or two we won’t escape the age of misinformation. The Sunday Talking head channels on my tv (it’s still important) are Right leaning at a 4:1 ratio. And the local news channels are all owned by Sinclair, so even those end up Republican coded.

I think Pot should be legal, but that it shouldn’t be legal to smoke it around me and also you have to change clothes between smoking and coming near me. (The same applies to any other cigar/cigarette).

I have a lone libertarian at my lab. And howdy, you have never seen a tantrum like when you ask a libertarian to help with anything that isn’t on their specific list of duties. Of course, they are fine with every other person in the lab stopping our job two weeks a year to help them with their work.

Nothing is better for conservative PR than being credibly accused of 🍇, even if you are a Dem I guess.

Trump’s comments on Platner June 6th: He’s a pig. Trump’s comments on Platner after the new allegations: It’s really a question of whether or not you believe the woman. A lot of people say big falsehoods

Jimmy Carter could sign farm bills because he famously had to sell his farm.

Jason Karsh@jkarsh.bsky.social

As a party, we Dems do not talk nearly enough about Republicans’ full embrace of Trump’s rampant criminality and profiting off the office because they want to commit the same crimes and profiting the same way themselves.

I just saw a post that said being against generative ai was like being anti-car in 1901 and I gotta say, looking at what we’ve done by relying on cars over the past 125 years they might not be making the great point they think they are.

Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it. People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19

RIP Mark Rothko. You would have loved how the hydrogen peroxide bleach is only turning the Reflecting Pool blue around the perimeter

So I’m an environmental microbiologist that specifically works with Harmful Algal Blooms, and want to say something about the Reflecting Pool. The algae isn’t because Trump’s Team did a bad job, it’s because they made an unreasonable promise. They were never going to keep algae out that pool.

I walked in a Pride Parade today and took my Polaroid camera to take pictures of people in the audience. But I alway gave them the picture afterwards. Everyone popped a fun pose for the picture, but the pure happiness and excitement when I handed them the photo let me know it had been a great idea.

There’s poetry to the neon lights being taller and over the darkened, nay empty, White House. It’s like an on the nose metaphor for how the current president puts his own self-aggrandizement over his duty as leader.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

the White House's UFC arena is all lit up tonight

A useful context that I wish the "are the White House's statements about Trump's health accurate?" included is the time he tested positive for Covid, went to an in-person debate with Biden, then didn't disclose he had tested positive until he was so sick that he had to be hospitalized

Reminder that banning elected officials from trading stock is a total no brainer. They can use privileged information to make money on the stock market, while they’re supposed to be working for you. Make no mistake — it’s legalized corruption.

Two nights ago, I said Trump had been using our troops as pirates in Iran and a Republican got mad. Well… the president just admitted it. He literally bragged about doing piracy.

But more importantly, who won the UGC match the President watched instead of paying attention to this? (Don’t tell me, I don’t care.)

Amy Siskind@amysiskind.com

The Dream Team failed. Total shock. We sent two of our most mediocre real estate developers and a fraud. Who could’ve guessed this outcome?

Just wanted to remind folks, especially the GOP and the FDD, that Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal didn’t give Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz or allow it to keep 60% enriched uranium. It sent $1.7 billion to Iran versus the tens of billions Iran will now make from tolls. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hey, FIFA, great inaugural winner of your international peace prize you have there. Solid choice.

Trump: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will … We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end”

Trump is committing war crimes in Iran and is threatening more and worse ones. His entire war strategy at this point is war crimes. A functional Congress would be far down the road of impeachment and removal.

My favorite Joke: “What’s a pirate’s favorite letter?” (Generally met with “Arrrrr!” as an answer.) To which you reply, “You’d be thinkin that, but truly tis the C they love.” And if they give the classic “I don’t know, what?” response, you can take the joke in either direction.
