"School was not easy for me." Medicine laureate Carol Greider achieved success in molecular biology in the same way she overcame dyslexia as a child: with persistence and creativity. Finding it difficult to read the traditional way, she taught herself to memorise words and letter order.

Reminder🎗️: MCB is hiring Assistant Professors across 3 divisions! 🗓️ Application Deadline: October 19, 2026

MCB postdoc Silvan Spiri is the lead author of exciting new research from the labs of Gloria Brar and Elçin Ünal that sheds new light on the mechanisms underlying gametogenic rejuvenation! 🔬

QB3-Berkeley@qb3-berkeley.bsky.social

New @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social research from the Brar and Ünal labs puts us one step closer to understanding gametogenic rejuvenation. Lead author Silvan Spiri developed a platform to discover the first factors responsible for making cells “young” again. Read more: bit.ly/4hpqYPJ

Exciting research from the labs of MCB’s David Savage @savagecatsonly.bsky.social and Christina Listgarten, featuring MCB postdoc Maria Lukarska @marialukarska.bsky.social! 🧬🔬

It was a privilege to lead the biochemistry efforts for the first preprint from the Nomburg lab! Check this exploration of conserved protein folds adapted to suppress immunity. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Jason Nomburg@jnoms.bsky.social

Happy to share the first preprint out of the Nomburg lab! Many aspects of cellular immunity are shared across the tree of life. Here, we show that some of these conserved aspects of cellular immunity are mirrored by conserved effectors of immune antagonism. Thread below! 1/15

Thrilled to share our collab led by Grace Hibshman with the Shipman lab! Type IX retron-Kva2 structure reveals phage detection via an HTH fold, not a primary sequence. We computationally designed triggers that program bacteria cell death, pointing toward designer antimicrobials.
