Cracked the first 100 pages on Days of Love and Rage and it's so good. I wasn't expecting the Love part to be so literal but romance and yearning are already central to picture of pre-civil war Syria.

Probably the most terrified I've ever been outside of a few nightmares/sleep paralysis episodes. Too scared to get up and change the channel, it's like the TV was getting hacked and he could see you.

The meta progression in Wardogs is like a hyperbolic satire of CoD4 style level ups. It rewards grinding more than any other competitive game I've played. The only way the slogan makes sense is if you were playing Takov when you were 12.

This is why the anti Prarieland "just do a Minneapolis" stuff a while back struck me as too satisfied. The center of gravity is fully at the camps and courthouses and airstrips and that's always going to have the "prison shit" angle vs a visceral ethnic cleansing done by storm troopers.

Good to know these guys will be handling any election related protests in DC. Cool heads!

A National Guard member who had been assigned to patrol Washington is being held in the D.C. jail on a felony charge after allegedly unholstering his loaded firearm and pointing it at another Guard member during an argument in a van.

My dad worked for the Blade a little bit. I had no idea it was so old.

The CIA reportedly bombed multiple civilian fishing boats off the Galápagos Islands earlier this year, and the public is only finding out now. Join us in demanding that Congress holds the Trump administration accountable NOW for carrying out these illegal, inhumane boat strikes.

HELP ME FIND EVIDENCE! Looking for photo/video of federal agents pepper spraying press or protesters AT HEAD OR FACE from close range. Especially MK9 (big 18oz cans below) from under 6 feet away, or smaller canisters (~3oz) from under 3 feet. Ideally in LA post-June 2025, but anywhere/time helps.

I feel like if the LC essay was as cynical as it claims to be, then the conclusion would be that the radicals make it more likely for more sympathetic protestors to get hit so you'd want agent provaceteurs while maintaining plausible deniability.

anyway in conclusion: you guys don't understand metro surge as well as you think, and also, this essay isn't cynical so much as it's a child's bedtime story. simple motivations, simple remedies, no serious consideration of what we're facing or how bad it had already gotten last july. cool stuff

I agree that you shouldn't bring a gun to a protest. But there's no one in any position to really coordinate and enforce that so part of being in the movement is not getting bogged down in litigating the sympathy of your allies.

This is to some extent what happened in LA on the first No Kings, the peaceful crowd in front of city hall got fucked up in part because previous protests were genuinely disruptive. Days before, an Australian newswoman got hit with a foam tipped because kids a block away were throwing water bottles.

To reach for the darling of nerds' protest signs everywhere, this dynamic is one of the main themes of Andor. Another thing they show is that unilaterally imposing this cynical thinking on the coalition causes a lot of stress! Which is maybe my actual problem with argument.

This reminds me of something my brother would say during meltdowns where this 7 year old boy would call our mom a terrorist.

AL@jebushchrist.bsky.social

He just came into our room with a list of complaints and on the way out refused a mommy hug. Just an emotional terrorist.

As someone from Ohio this is embarrassing for Michigan. John Kasich has more dignity.

"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens

Uh huh, sure

As part of a proposed plea deal, an undocumented man says he hired José Ignacio “Nacho” De La Cruz De La Rosa to transport his girlfriend across the Canadian border. https://www.vermontpublic.org/local-news/2026-07-22/man-will-admit-to-paying-migrant-justice-organizer-to-smuggle-woman-into-us

Thing is that Israel as an issue is ties in a ton of others that have huge stakes for domestic life, like our broader foreign policy, the rights of Muslim Americans, the power of old elites to override popular sentiment. They've even threatened a NATO ally!

Maybe I'm wrong and these people will be willing to show up, I'm sure some will, but I'm skeptical. There have been plenty of opportunities for them to show out, to counter protest, to intimidate. And they're all just sitting at home watching the show.

“All the people mocking Trump’s address because his claims were ludicrous (they were) are completely missing the point. He was not aiming at evidence-based voters. It was a call to arms for the kind of people who stormed the Capitol on J6 so when he brings in extreme measures(…) they will be ready…”

It almost makes me sad. 2020 was genuinely scary! He assembled a small army at the Capitol! Could you imagine a single person under 50 watching that speech and getting in the street?

That was it? He wanted a primetime slot for that? He's fucking washed

That's not discount ICE terrorism and the warmongering or any other atrocity. But the movement's vitality is gone. It's just a snuff film studio with some side hustles and it feels like there's nothing left to do but scrub out the stains and pay the victims.
