I wonder how large Billy Evans' cut of You Can See Everything was. Is there some potential contractual reason nathan doesn't disclose this?

sometimes when I've been tweeting about the same thing for two weeks straight, which is the main thing I do on here, I see someone I know interact with or like a tweet and I feel great shame

I fully assume most people I know just sort of mute me. And this is how I justify tweeting about "You Can See Everything" for a fourth consecutive day

once I was in a sort of small city in france, and I asked a hotel guy "bonjour, est-ce que vous parlez anglais?" (do you speak english) and he looked at me strangely and said "vous parlez francais" (you speak french), because he preferred to just keep speaking french

the tragedy of language learning is that it is never impressive. the best you can get is as good as a random 20 year old nobody thinks is all that special. and that will never ever happen lol

I will take this opportunity to brag about my proudest french moment. I went to a museum and the guy asked for my zip code, and I said, oh it doesn't matter, I'm from new york. and the guy was like, what? really?? this was the greatest moment in my life

and it occurred to me that this is the sole reward of french learning: Half following some french guy because you sound like you speak french enough that a frenchman finds the idea of using his broken english annoying. I will never get better than that

I think I have a quite literal-minded approach to movies that can sometimes lead to me not seeing eye to eye with people. And the Nathan Fielder movie is the clearest example. I am not in any way disturbed by the idea that you can't tell if someone is authentic or honest through their behavior alone

maybe one day I'll make my most hated video of all time about why I find this movie just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I must stop tweeting about it

I am having online interactions that are making me aware that one disconnect I had with the movie is that I was not even momentarily seduced by Holmes, I felt like she was saying gibberish 90% of the time

I think I have a quite literal-minded approach to movies that can sometimes lead to me not seeing eye to eye with people. And the Nathan Fielder movie is the clearest example. I am not in any way disturbed by the idea that you can't tell if someone is authentic or honest through their behavior alone

I was actually under the impression that trying to catch out liars through body language and such was basically pseudo science. this had big implications on how I watched da movie lol

okay I take that back. I am disturbed by it. the proposition that we can't fully understand people is a frightening one, and much great media has explored it. It's just not particularly frightening in the case of Elizabeth Holmes

at this point, Mr Beast's main job seems to be plumpening himself. These videos were released two weeks apart. Two plumpenings and de-plumpenings in such a short period just can't be healthy

okay maybe I'm being unfair. I guess he got plump in the grocery store, plumping on milk and melon on day 201. and then he had to lose the weight that he and his plump wife had gained. still it just feels like a big toll on the body

and do keep in mind, it was just one short year between his most recent plumping and his last plumping. I just wonder when it will end

The Nathan Fielder movie is about the inherently manipulative nature of language and documentary, but I the clearest example of this manipulation is not “do I remember these words exactly right,” it’s “did we look into how weird this power of attorney situation actually is”

Nathan fielder wants to find the lies in small existential places, and to ask questions like “can we really know anybody?” This is essentially always what he wants to ask. But what happens when we don’t know people… because they stonewall us

What happens when the misunderstandings that pervade our lives don’t matter literally at all because the subject of the documentary lied and defrauded in very obvious ways adjudicated by a jury, and now lies about those lies ever having happened

It’s not “how credible is the New York Times, really? Did they get that quote right?” It’s “undermining the credibility of the Times with no evidence.” I’m not sure if this is intentional but if it is, that’s pretty interesting lol

I’m a massive Nathan Fielder fan and thought the movie was pretty good but, and I know I’m gonna get a lot of people saying “that was the point,” but it would have been nice to learn something deep, surprising, interesting about Elizabeth Holmes in the Elizabeth Holmes movie

She fucking gets the “who’s on first” joke, she just answers no to every question. She is at a month long deposition and she doesn’t recall a thing. Is that interesting? Maybe

Overwhelming thought was that she was clearly playing a dumb character for the entire movie and that the movie wanted things to feel more complicated than that.

I know it's annoying that I always exclusively tweet about my newest video for like five days after it comes out. But after reading a good number of comments I got the impression that I like BRUTALIZED andrew callaghan and drove his work into the GROUND. but I rewatched a bit and like, it was fine

one point I really wish I'd made in the video but ended up cutting is that Andrew's debate claims in his Jub video are about low salience conspiracies. He doesn't talk about election denial or vaccines or trans panic. And so I empathize with the desire to think "these guys are just weird boys"

(of course I think that is like, one essential problem with the video, and that the choice of conspiracies they debate about actively contributes to what I'll call "insane washing" but that is neither here nor there)

obviously I do look dimly on a good amount of his work. I really think if your lesson from the last decade of politics is "we should privilege emotional truth over normal truth MORE" that something is wrong. But it's also a very common belief and one that I think some people come by in good faith

one surprise from the video is that a good number of people are pretty sympathetic to the idea that trump staged his ear shooting. feels like a lot to me. and the only evidence provided is that he doesn't have a big scar, when I feel like he coulda just been nicked by the bullet

For the record, I don’t even find this particular theory emotionally gratifying. It would seem to imply that Trump is a courageous and meticulous genius

Guy risked getting shot in the head by a gun 400 yards away all for the somewhat marginal benifit it gave his already pretty successful presidential run. Perhaps he deserves to be president idk

I feel like people never want to say their affirmative case either, which here is that trump like, paid some guy to murder a fireman in his audience while exploding a blood pack on his body, all in the name of da grind

I don't think people would care so much about the Shane Gillis monologue where he talks about gym women dressing as whores if it was funny like literally at all. You really gotta be funny in this world

I responded fuck off before I realized I was responding to famed YouTuber Max Landis. It was like an instinctive, almost Pavlovian response to the comment

I hung out with a friend today who didn't know about view inflation, and they talked about and seemed impressed by how quickly my video hit a million views. boys... it's working... the public doesn't know

This is an interesting idea. From my perspective, of course if you're making the choice to platform someone, you should do it in good faith under the assumption that what they believe matters. and that platforming people in some cutesy false way is worse. maybe that is disagreeable to some

It's confusing because you seem to be saying the show would be better if they actually treated the cranks they have on like they have real political points to make, when everyone already thinks they give them too much legitimacy by even featuring them.

I mean on a fundamental level, if you platform the Gay Hate activist, and you contrive the debate such that he isn't challenged on Gay Hatred, you're just not fulfilling what feels like a basic obligation to the public

I will say that I all but refused to engage with Jubilee on the question "is platforming evil people for debates wrong?" Just bc that is just what the channel does, and any criticism on this level isn't very specific to Jubilee. It's like objecting to the Christian Channel because God isn't real
