I haven’t done anything worthwhile in my entire life, but surely my posts are good?

I just found out that I was underclocking (???) my RAM and was able to bump the transfer rate up a step. Not sure I’m noticing any difference whatsoever but this is likely the closest I’ll get to feeling the thrill of a computer upgrade in a long time

Just occurred to me that my dad had played a lot of Victor Borge when I was young. I wonder if that’s been buried in my subconscious, ready to awaken. Is that why I spent 3 weeks trying to learn Cheeseburger in Paradise?

Basically learning piano just to do bits

I have long struggled to learn the piano (bad brain, no good) but one thing that motivates me is to think how funny it would be at a gathering, say family Christmas, and just be able to bust this out

Correction: Nathan was talking about another movie, not his own

Steve@bigtimedumbguy.bsky.social

Nathan says at the beginning that the did test screenings where people knew how the film ended beforehand. Those people reported that they enjoyed the film *more* than people that went in blind, which is a result I’ve seen before and think about from time to time.

Does that mean that spoilers make watching/reading easier? That it means the viewer doesn’t need to be challenged as they experience their media? Or maybe, it allows for the viewer to enjoy the moment to moment experience rather than trying to work out a puzzle? I love thinking about this stuff

Saw this thread too that seems related. People want to be challenged, but tend to pick “safe” media. Do spoilers make media feel safer? Is it actually better to have higher enjoyment if it’s less challenging? If media is rewarding intellectually, is it enjoyed less? bsky.app/profile/tome...

Re the last repost, one of the things that has stuck from my time in the behavioural science snake oil mines was an experiment where if people planned a week of movie viewing they would pick a mix of genres, some 'highbrow' etc but if they picked day to day it was all the same stuff

Just saw this one too. Obviously I didn’t/can’t read the whole study, but looking at the abstract, this study links spoilers with media conforming to genre standards. People like to feel “fluent” in what they watch/read. To me, this reads as “people want to stay in their comfort zone”. Interesting

One study had people read murder mystery books, and spoiled the twist/revealed the killer to half the readers beforehand. The spoiled readers also enjoyed the books as much or more than those that went in cold. I personally try not to spoil things for others but I find this fascinating

There are so many little moments in YCSE that are interesting or shocking that it’s hard to think of how they can be spoiled without actually watching the film. No big conclusions here or anything, I just find it a fascinating aspect of human nature.

Cambozola isn’t my absolute favorite cheese but no one in the house likes but me. When you cultivate the right cheese-based principals, you can become immune to the cheese thieves

It’s kind of annoying to see certain trends get talked about to death on here, but then I go to Reddit (my mistake) and see a post on the front page that is like “is it ok to hate women” with 1000 replies all saying yes.

If you’re thinking that this is “late to the party” or “kind of lame”, just keep in mind that I spent 2 hours driving to the puyallup state fair in order to spend $150 on about 12 minutes of entertainment, so my brain is at about 12%

The pros of living close to wildlife -cool birds -the sound of seals barking in the distance in the morning -a bunny living in our bush -deer wandering in the yard Cons: -when the coyotes get riled up and start screaming like a ring wraiths at 2am

I was driving home at night the other day and I saw a rat run across the street, and then a huge barred owl swooped through my headlights after it. Coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.

I bought a cheese called “Old World Cheddar” that uses a historic recipe, thinking it would just be a nice sharp cheddar and it was straight up nasty. There are a lot of reasons to avoid time travel, should the opportunity present itself, but I can add “nasty cheese” to the very top of the list.

In the mid 2000s it was in vogue to use furries as a cultural punching bag and I regrettably bought into that. A few years ago I made a conscious decision that furries are cool and deserve respect. I apologize for my past beliefs. I stand with the furry community #furriesarecool #inmybook

The 3 o’clock sleepy feeling is real and it is truly bewildering that it has only been officially recognized by the Spanish and the 5 Hour Energy Corporation.

Getting high and playing Cape Hideous is legitimately a top 10 gaming moment for me. If the art style interests you even a little bit, it’s a true wonder seeing all the details come alive as you play. Incredible game.

I saw a bird nest in the yard and gathered the kids so we could investigate. Got to the nest and peeked inside and, ope, it was full of dead baby birds. Now that’s a hashtag parenting fail.

I thought for the longest time that the Aaron Eckhart movie “No Reservations” was about Anthony Bourdain. Finally found it that it’s not. I also found out that Bradly Cooper played Bourdain in a TV show, but was also a chef in the movie called Burnt. This has been another boring story about my life.

Someone put “Supply Chain Management for Dummies” in the little free library by my kids’ school. I’m now imagining someone who is supply chain curious, but hasn’t yet bought any books, stumbling across that and it changing their life.

LinkedIn will send me an email and the subject will be “Steve, you’re puzzle expires soon!” What the fuck are you talking about? I *never* want to hear from your ass, let alone some shit about puzzles.

Glad this movie is coming out, fuck you WB etc, but let’s be real, that opening rocket shoe gag is abysmal. The shoes simply explode? Chuck Jones is well and truly dead.

First trailer for Coyote vs. ACME, starring John Cena, Lana Condor, and Will Forte. The Looney Tunes movie is in theaters on August 28.

I had one of those huge novelty milkshakes with tons of toppings on it that cost like $19 the other day and it was so bad that I can’t even think about normal ice cream without getting sick to my stomach.

I was sick last night and to distract myself from my pain and nausea I just kept repeating a headline that I had read earlier “Charles Dance officially joins the cast of The Batman II” over and over. Insane thing to do, but it did help. Thank you Charles Dance.

I don’t want to retweet CBS news, but when we talk about the USPS losing money, I always think about how my mailman has done more for me personally than 99% of the American population and they are supposed to be the villain??
