"War on Drugs" is a metaphor, not a military engagement Drug cartels have tactical weapons for defence & local intimidation, but not armies to conduct war The aggressions at sea are against hoodlums, not military force. Law enforcement, not war Rules of war do not apply. Rules of decency do. 🚫👑🇺🇲

TRUMP: THE DRUG TRAFFICKER’S FRIEND Why is he blowing up boats with low-level drug runners, and letting the kingpins go free? Despite his anti-drug rhetoric, Donald Trump has issued more pardons to drug dealers than any president in history. 1/2

Because you know I'm all about that base, 'Bout that base, no Lib'ral! I'm all about that base. 'Bout that base. Base! Base! Base! Base! (Sorry, Mehgan. We still love you.)

Hypothetical: USN interdicts a cigarette boat in international waters & finds her loaded to the gunwales w/ cocaine, which manifest show was bound to Amsterdam via Surinam. Has a US crime been committed or any US overdoses been averted? Probably cleanest just to sink her now & silence the crew.

Is it possible that the survivors of the destroyed speedboats must be killed or repatriated because if they were captured & rendered for trial, it would turn out they were just sportsmen or fishermen after all? 🤔

The go fast boats look dramatic when they blow up, but that is not the best way to keep their cargo out of the US, if that is indeed where they're headed The Navy's precision weaponry could just as easily disable them without sinking, so they can be boarded. Interdiction, not murder.

A couple of guys in a cigarette boat, maybe w/ sidearms or even a long gun or two, pose no risk to aircraft high above or a battleship miles away Blowing them up is not combat. It is shooting fish in a barrel This is not a war on drugs. It is a crime spree The sailors involved should be ashamed

If you feel powerless, then you are. If Trump has taught us anything, it is that if you want exert power, first you have to seize it. Together we are stronger than he is. Vote as if your country was depending on you.

If there had been some sort of accountability for Watergate, for Iran/Contra, even for Oval Office blowjobs (Clinton's wasn't the first) would we be in the situation we are today It is one thing to say no one is above the law, quite another to make it so.

In a democracy, it is often necessary to tolerate policies you find disagreeable because a majority has voted for them. Trump is different. He is a small, vile man, a predator, intellectually lazy, amoral, cruel, devoid of empathy & narcissistic almost beyond comprehension. And he smells bad.

Sometimes Trump makes me wish that Winston Smith-style erasure of history were possible--no presidency, no TV show, no Epstein, no buildings, no stench. Nothing. Then I remember what history is for: so we know what we want to help happen again, & what we want to make sure never does.

If you ever have any doubt that this administration is about cosplay, consider the Yankee Doodle Dandy duds Hegseth sports over the Nazi & White Supremacy iconography tattooed permanently on his skin. Talk about cognitive dissonance!

Obamacare polls way higher than Trump. Apples 🍎 & oranges🍊, I know.

More Americans approve of the Affordable Care Act than at any point since it took effect more than a decade ago, per a new Gallup survey. GOP says they’ve got a better healthcare plan. Where is it? What are the details? How is it better? Put up or shut up. #ProudBlue #Pinks #TrumpIsUnfitForOffice

The thinking seems to be: If they don't release the Epstein files, then it won't be true that our government is riddled with criminals & sexual predators. They do it for our own good.

This is the same thinking Gerald Ford used when he said if he pardoned Nixon then the nation would not be torn asunder. He was blind, wilfully or not, to the rift that was already there.

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.” What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.” Funny how that works.

Step 1: POTUS deploys armed troops to Democratic cities Step 2: Outside our border he establishes the principle that he can fight crime at his sole discretion with overwhelming, even lethal, military force Step 3: TBA

It is proper that POTUS should have extraordinary power during emergencies such as insurrection or invasion. It is not proper that he should be able to unilaterally declare or create an emergency for the purpose of granting himself extraordinary power. That's what advise & consent is for.

Who sez Trump 2 will last 4 years?

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Are farmers going to be on welfare for all 4 years of this Trump term, or just for 3 years like the first Trump term? We get you like voting for government handouts, but we are $38 trillion in debt.

The great fallacy of Conservatism is that govt must be small. The purpose of govt it to represent the people In an arena where players are large-corporations, unions, parties, nations-the govt must be large enough to play, too Without that the people have no voice, & oligarchy triumphs.

Retribution perpetuates the evil it is intended to correct. The seeker of retribution is never free Reconciliation recognizes the evil & replaces it with good. It frees the soul Retribution is the road to perdition Reconciliation is the road to Justice Justice, not revenge, is the way to liberty

Among the wisdom of Bill W is this: without a searching & fearless moral inventory of ourselves, recovery is not possible Negro Slavery & racism, genocide of indigenous people, Japanese internment, & xenophobia are as American as apple pie If we deny this in ourselves, we cannot recover from them

Retribution can be recognized by the grim glee with which it is handed down. It diminishes it's wielder, & can never be satisfied Reconciliation brings a somber acceptance, and the sense a heavy burden has been lifted. It brings peace The path to justice runs thru reconciliation, not retribution

The US govt is wildly corrupt. There is little doubt about that. The solution to corruption is not concealment & retribution. It is truth & reconciliation. With reconciliation must come understanding & compassion. Accountability must be proportional, even-handed, merciful, & firm.

The President doesn't make law. The people do through their reps in Congress & state legislatures EOs are not laws themselves, but tools the President uses to be sure Congress' laws are followed POTUS thinks his orders are law. They're killing & detaining people These are not Presidential powers

As a general rule, the President's Constitutional role is the faithfully execute the laws passed Congress. Through their representatives in Congress the people make the policies that bind them, & the President carries them out. That's what the patriots of 1776 meant by liberty. We have lost it.

The Constitution considers the need to enforce laws at sea (Article 1.8.10). All responsibility & authority for that is vested in Congress, not POTUS. The President's role is to faithfully execute policies rendered into law by Congress. Does it seem to you like that's what's happening now?

The main difference between the President & der Fuhror is that the President recognizes the limits of his power, & knows that representative governing involves consultation & compromise with other elected representatives of the people. Our current Fuhror does not seem to get that. He must go.

Good luck with those second jobs. With no way to forsee where markets are heading, no business can plan ahead. So nobody's hiring.

Amy Klobuchar@amyklobuchar.com

If health insurance tax credits expire this month, millions of Americans will face skyrocketing premiums. Some will take second jobs and credit card debt, while others will drop coverage altogether and go without care. We are fighting to stop this from happening.
