Anyway, had plenty time during this game to add personal fouls to the rotation chart, and improve the lead graph billmill.org/nba/rotation...
I made a bunch of improvements to the rotation chart, which now shows both teams and a score difference chart between them. I'm still not super happy with the style of the line on the difference chart, but making improvements little by little. billmill.org/nba/rotation...
Ported the cumulative stat chart to billmill.org/nba v2 today, being able to edit it inline instead of having to try and post-process or hack the HTML is so nice. billmill.org/nba/cumulati...
I released an all new billmill.org/nba/ built on the ashes of the old site and the new data from github.com/llimllib/nba... It now lets you annotate the graph directly on the site and export it as a png with a shareable URL, ex: billmill.org/nba/shooting...
still all open-source, available at github.com/llimllib/ste... The site pulls parquet data from my CDN at load time instead of needing to be rebuilt regularly, which I think is a neat feature If you have an idea for a graph that you'd like to see, definitely let me know!
That means the rotation charts I posted about last night are available now: billmill.org/nba/rotation... , in a hopefully improved version I'm still iterating on
Also: the URL on there is a lie, I'm working on v2 of billmill.org/nba but it's not published anywhere
All this data is available in one duckdb file, which is a front for a set of parquet files: duckdb basketball-data.billmill.org/nba/nba.duckdb The code and github actions for downloading the data is at github.com/llimllib/nba_data
This bit in @jonbois.bsky.social 's video on the Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura fight, where he flips the scatterplot sideways, is another transcendant data visualization win for a man who ought to be universally considered a data visualization pioneer youtu.be/p6gXBCvf8q0?...
Love this tool from @fearthebrown.bsky.social : intheno.net/team-depth-l... Great idea & execution, lots of interesting ideas come from it. It's almost NBA season!

It had been 10 years since I did a "Solving Sol", and for some reason I got the idea to do one this morning. You can play around with it at llimllib.github.io/solving-sol/... if you're so inclined
follow @sollewitt.bsky.social if you want to get art in your feed, I don't run the feed I just enjoy it
source code here, though it's just a web page, the source code's in "view source" too: github.com/llimllib/sol...
Austria is bumped way up by their 6'9" (205cm) backup goalkeeper Florian Wiegele: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florian... I'm thinking about ways to have "effective height" that reflects the players that actually play, but it's tough without knowing who the players that will actually play is
@jmduke.com nit from www.jmduke.com/posts/victor...: Kenny Atkinson is the coach of the Cavs, not JB Bickerstaff, and the one who claimed they were "up analytically" www.espn.com/nba/story/_/...
I ran a test of container file system performance on Mac OS by the simple expedient of measuring `npm install` with a cold cache. github.com/llimllib/con... Orbstack did shockingly well, paying basically no performance tax whatsoever for running in a container. I've not previously used it

Interesting experience working with @jdx.dev : - I tried out aube and hit a bug - I created a discussion for the bug: github.com/endevco/aube... - Four minutes later, he/his bot/some combination replied that the bug had been fixed: github.com/endevco/aube... From my perspective, this was a great +
