Birding Ralph 🐦🦆🦉🦋🐞📸

Hello Bsky friends👋 here's a brief intro to myself: my name's Ralph. I live in 🇩🇪 (previously in CA) & work for an African health NGO. In my spare time, I like to take 📸s, especially of #birds. Being out in #nature is therapy for my soul. I'm also a dad of 2😀. #funfact: I used to be in a ska band 🎺🕺.

It's been a while since I was able to participate in #BirdOfTheDay. Now finally a contribution to the ALT theme #FightingFeathers: birds in conflict with other #birds ⬇️ 2 Eurasian Oystercatchers in a bit of a dispute... #nature #photography #naturephotography #birdphotography #birding #birdwatching

Common Sandpiper with #WingsOpenNotFlying for #BirdOfTheDay // #BirdsSeenIn2026 🇩🇪 This bird hatched this year and is heading for its first fall & winter. Good luck, little friend, on your journey south! #birds #photography #nature #naturephotography #birding #fall #autumn #waders #shorebirds

Rob says #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #LongBeak So here's a Dunlin from yesterday ⬇️ Have a great one out there y'all... I'm going back to the river now in hopes that this dude and his pals are still around. More pics soon... 🤞 #birds #naturephotography #photography #nature #waders #shorebirds #eck

Totally lucked out the other day when this beautiful female Kingfisher - or is it Queenfisher...🤔? - landed right in front of me. They're such gorgeous #birds, aren't they? #nature #naturephotography #eck #photography #kingfisher #BirdsSeenIn2026 🇩🇪

Will u help me by letting me know your favorite in the comments: 1 = yoga 2 = foraging 3 = yawn 4 = portrait 🙏🙌 #birds #nature #naturephotography#birdphoto

☝️ Alan set the theme for today's #BirdOfTheDay as #Coastal&River: any coastal or river #birds These two quarreling Common Sandpipers ⬇️ from the other day fit the bill perfectly (no pun intended...) - their name in 🇩🇪 translates as "river bank walker" 🤓 #naturephotography #BirdsSeenIn2026 #nature

😵‍💫 Lost in translation: names of #birds across different languages can be kinda confusing... 🤪 The Mediterranean Gull (📸⬇️ from earlier today) in 🇩🇪 is "Black-headed Gull", whereas the Black-headed Gull is "Laughing Gull" and the Yellow-legged Gull is "Mediterranean Gull"... #BirdsSeenIn2026 #nature

🤗 For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #FabulousWaders chosen by @helenbennett.bsky.social I cannot help but to go with one of "my" four Little Ringed Plover chicks I've been hanging out with these last few days. Such adorable #shorebirds 🐥😍 #birds #photography #eck #waders #nature #naturephotography

I find it difficult to put into words what it is that's so fascinating about #birdwatching & #birdphotography. Luckily, pictures say more than a thousand words... So here's one - of a juvenile Little Ringed Plover I took yesterday. It was real close. #birds #nature #photography #naturephotography

😍 I totally lucked out this morning hanging out with the Plover chicks when, all of a sudden, a Kingfisher perched on one of the nearby rocks. It always pays to be in position before the #birds get there. Right place right time 🍀 #BirdsSeenIn2026 🇩🇪 #nature #naturephotography #photography

Little birdie, why do you have such big feet? Isn't it obvious? So that I can BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE 😍😍😍 #birds #nature #wildlife #cuteness #cute #photographyisart #photography #birdphotography #birdstories #fairytale

So I went back to hang out with the Plover chicks... 😍 Am I to blame...? 😇 🧐 If you zoom in closely, you'll see what the little one's focused on: an unfortunate little bug that ended up as its snack... 🦟 Advance for #WaderWednesday #cute #birds #nature #photography #naturephotography

What?! You never seen a bird do yoga...? 🐦🤸 Fluffy fuzzball on one leg 😍 Taken today for #BirdOfTheDay: #SummerLovin ☀️⛱️ #birds #photography #ECK #nature #naturephotography #artchallenge #yoga #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #wildlife

Whoever said July's typically a slow month for #birding didn't reckon with the Plover chicks that just hatched in my local patch. Expect another picture or two of these cute little fellas in the coming days... 😍 #birds #birdwatching #birdphotography #SuperSeabirdSunday #waders #shorebirds #cuteness

Couldn't believe my luck this morning when I ran into a family of Little Ringed Plovers: here's one of the kids ⬇️🐥😍 They're #Migratory #birds & this one's a #ScreenFiller; excellent for #BirdOfTheDay. Plus they're tiny & a perfect #SmallBirdSaturday fit. 🙌 #photography #naturephotography #nature

Late for Rob's #BirdOfTheDay prompt #Orange because I spent some time with the Bee-eaters ⬇️ today. And they do have orange in their plumage, along with most any other color it seems 😍🌈 #birds #eck #naturephotography #photography #birdphotography #naturephotography #wildlife #colours #colorful
