Rekindling my first love of letterpress type: lead type. Over 20 years ago @puddsharp flew with me to Illinois to bring a whole bunch of type back to Louisiana. The type grew to more type plus image cuts from New Iberia, LA.

As I’m preparing for the big move to North Carolina this summer, we’ve started some big long overdue type projects. 1) I donated a lot to Nichols state university via Ross Jahnketo their budding letterpress space in the printmaking studio

“Righteousness exalts a nation. Hate just makes people miserable.” Fannie Lou Hamer (1917–1977) Born in Mississippi as the twentieth child of sharecroppers, she rose from poverty and oppression to become one of the most powerful voices of the Civil Rights Movement.

Working with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), she dedicated herself to expanding Black voter registration despite the constant threat of violence.

We make a lot-a lot of notebooks in our small studio. And we have a mighty standard of high quality so…… that means we accumulate a bunch of “seconds”. Each notebook is made by hand and hands are the best, but things can get messy. So today through Feb 28,

all online orders of $25+ will receive a FREE MYSTERY notebook. No code necessary. We choose which notebook you receive. They may have a small tear, mark on the cover, a bent mark, a weird stitch, a glue spot, etc but every one of them will work as a fantastic notebook/journal.

THIS SATURDAY! Holiday Open House at Blackbird. We open our doors for one LAST holiday and will have paper goods to sell plus guest artists. Come see the 🌟 stars 🌟 of the show the printing presses! 3 presses (the oldest from 1904) will be set up and you can print souvenirs to take home.

This will be our LAST holiday open house! Blackbird (and kathryn & Dave) are moving to WNC this summer. So come by and say hello. This event has been our favorite for so many years and we always love to see our local friends! We’ll have special prices and NEW tshirts! And lots of goodies.

Shop SMALL weekend is here! FRi-MON 25 % off cards on the cards page https://www.blackbirdletterpress.com/cards-1 thru Monday! Select items marked down throughout our online shop. Free sticker with every order fri & sat. Choose to spend your dollars with small businesses this year.

LIMITED EDITION! We have brought back an old favorite, the vintage 3D DIY station wagon card. And this time we’ve added a yuletide / xmas tree to go on top. These cards are great gifts that become a Christmas tree ornament or a novelty wagon to sit on your mantle.

While kids love these, they may need help from an adult to put them together. Just cut, fold and glue, instructions are listed on the card. Who else remembers riding in the “way back” in a “woodie” wagon? A limited edition, when these are gone they are gone. Grab one while you can!

In January, 2025, the Executive Board of Hamilton Wood Type Museum assumed direct control of day-to-day operations, an extraordinary overreach for a governing board.

Rather than appointing an interim director to ensure continuity, the Board chose to micromanage staff, mistreat workers, and impose harmful leadership decisions. We call for the resignation of the entire Hamilton Wood Type Museum Board
