NEW EPISODE! The Black Casebook returns with a suitably epic analysis of perhaps the single most influential story in Batman's history. Frank Miller and his collaborators called down the lightning to make this book; four decades later, we're still interpreting the thunder. pod.link/1618791941/e...

King’s Lovecraft riffs—especially the ones with explicit shout-outs to the Cthulhu mythos—tend to be duds. By keeping the big picture stuff vague and the horror immediate, Pet Sematary is far and away his most effective evocation of an indifferent cosmos that bends toward chaos and cruelty.

What’s the scariest @stephenking.bsky.social book for you? For me, SALEM’S LOT, no doubts.

I take it Bioware's closure was a fait accompli, but it still sucks to see absolutely everything get hollowed out—regardless of critical or commercial success—even as it becomes harder every day to afford inferior versions of things you used to enjoy.

I'm very pleased by the excited reactions to this, but sadly this also confirms that not every single one of you has set aside five hours to listen all the way through the Dark Knight Returns episode. This is the worst betrayal a guy in his thirties has ever suffered at the hands of his disciples.

You couldn’t pick a more capable guy to sub in—and this genuinely sounds like Soderbergh doing a favor for a friend—but man do I hate this for Reeves. A deeply unfortunate break for a project he’s already poured so much of himself into.

On the one hand, feels good to see some shred of normality hanging on in 2026. On the other, one of my crank opinions is that broadcasting executions would force Americans to reckon with what our justice looks like and potentially bring us closer to abolishing capital punishment.

I try not to be unduly optimistic about human nature, but the shift in public opinion on Israel (to cite one example) directly correlates to the visibility of their atrocities. And nothing is going to change as long as it's out of sight and out of mind in our high-tech oubliettes.

I thought I had at least passing familiarity with conspiracy theories until the man sitting next to me at the Lebanon, OH Skyline told me “space ain’t real.” “What do you think is between us and the moon?” an employee asked. The man seemed to think about this for a moment. “The moon…is with us.”

(Carla Gugino as a newly widowed Ellen Brody) Honey, I'm starting to think our unresolved family trauma is a lot like that damn shark. We may not be able to see it beneath those cold black waves, but we can see the things it touches—and tears apart. Webster's Dictionary defines 'grief' as

Mike Flanagan wants to make a JAWS movie. Flanagan explains during a Reddit AMA session this week, "Honestly, I wish to hell I could make a JAWS movie." "Another example where no one will EVER get close to the original, but there is a ton of room for improvement on the sequels."

The Sadness felt like little more than an audition to direct a Crossed adaptation, and I'll be damned if it didn't work

Entering the fourth year of the reign of Moloch. May we all live to see his idols smashed and his throne in ruins, to feel the unburdened embraces of our loved ones and comrades, to hear songs of life overpower the unremitting clangor of the war pigs.

Industry people keep implying that Reeves has been dealing with some seriously difficult issues behind the scenes the last few years. Hopefully people can keep that in mind before pulling out the torches and pitchforks over an overdue Batman movie.

'‘The Batman Part II’ Production Paused As Matt Reeves Steps Away For Personal Reasons' deadline.com/2026/10/the-...

I want to see this movie as much as anyone, save for Reeves himself. But it's not worth him e.g. missing chemo appointments, abandoning his family in the middle of a crisis (can't help thinking of Zack Snyder's daughter, sadly), etc. etc. And it's definitely not going to make the movie better.
