Woke up this morning sick to my stomach after another modern day WWII nightmare. In my nightmare we were all in modern clothing, backpacks filled with items we’d need to get through a few days, we were waiting to be escorted out of what obviously looked like a giant farm (fencing and everything)

Received a HUGE burst of energy and unloaded the dishwasher, hand washed the rest of the dishes, packaged up all of our goldfish and animal crackers in snack packs for the drive, cut up grapes, strawberries, blueberries, pears and cucumbers, threw in the last load of laundry…

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. With the rise of facism in the USA, I would be remiss to not say something on this day. I lost my maternal grandmothers family in the Holocaust. I have spent my entire life learning about the Shoah. Anne Frank inspired me to want to document life.

I have walked through the camps myself. I have seen the hair. I have seen the shoes. I have seen the glasses, the prosthetics and table wear. I have seen the ash’s. I have been in a gas chamber and seen the ovens.

The people from the Holocaust and their descendants have said “ NEVER AGAIN”. This doesn’t mean only to the Jews… this means for everyone. We will not stand for others to be victimized and oppressed and treated as subhuman.

I have spoken to a Survivor. I was with her when she found out her sister was a victim at Balzac . I have Mourned with her.

As a mother I need to remember that I have a responsibility during these times. Especially as I am raising a son. It is my duty to raise him to be able to take care of himself one day, to stand up for those who do not have a voice and to fight for what he feels is right.
