Consultants don’t want to strike, but after 18 months without formal negotiations, they cannot wait any longer. These strikes are planned to take place on 25 and 26 November, with Christmas Day levels of cover provided. There is still time for the Government to make progress. 👉 bit.ly/3WLBzfE
We condemn these deliberate attacks against healthcare in Sudan, which are in clear violation of international law www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Healthcare is increasingly under attack in conflict zones and more must be done to stop this. Read our key recommendations: www.bma.org.uk/what-we-do/w...
We are deeply concerned that this high-level guidance will result in local policies that are exclusionary to trans and non-binary staff and patients. It will affect their ability to access and work in the NHS and have negative consequences for cisgender people.
London Weighting for doctors has not increased in more than 20 years, it no longer reflects the reality of the spiralling costs they face. Doctors in London are taking part in an indicative ballot over whether to take further action.
The Government have recommended yet another sub-inflationary pay rise for an already beleaguered medical profession. Cutting pay is not the way to tell a workforce you value them. www.bma.org.uk/news-and-opi...
The NHS has issued new guidance on same sex spaces for patients and staff. This guidance is based on the EHRC code of practice which we believe is exclusionary of trans and non-binary people. We continue to hold serious concerns about the implications of the guidance, and how it will be implemented.
Cutting doctors’ pay won’t keep them in the NHS. The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay. Full statement: www.bma.org.uk/bma-media-ce...
Doctors’ London Weighting hasn’t increased in more than 20 years, while rent, travel, childcare and other costs have all soared. London's doctors work with an outdated allowance. @bmalondon.bsky.social

It's clear that pay for armed forces doctors has fallen behind NHS colleagues, risking recruitment and retention. Read our recommendations to the pay review body. https://bma.pulse.ly/gopeixauw0

In the latest Pulse podcast, Tom Dolphin raises concerns about new government proposals that would allow physician associates in primary care to see undifferentiated patients. Listen to the full discussion https://pulsetoday.pulse.ly/9gh0rwnka4
Plans to allow physician assistants to see undifferentiated patients are poorly evidenced. This should have been a public consultation from the start, working in collaboration with representatives from the medical profession. www.bmj.com/content/395/...

In an increasingly hostile world, it’s imperative that the principle of medical neutrality is upheld, ensuring that doctors and healthcare workers in conflict zones can continue to provide care without coming under attack. We back this WMA declaration.

Plans to allow PAs to see undifferentiated patients and expect resident doctors to supervise are irresponsible and poorly evidenced. Writing in the BMJ, our council chair @tomdolphin.bsky.social has set out the sorry story behind these baffling plans: www.bmj.com/content/395/...
When doctors don't feel safe speaking up, everyone loses. The GMC's latest survey found that 67% of SAS and locally employed doctors felt reporting bullying or harassment would make no difference. Read more: thedoctor.bma.org.uk/articles/doc...

Despite the BMA advocating for a full, public consultation, the DHSC has limited responses to stakeholder organisations including royal colleges. So make sure your voice is heard – follow the link to find the contact details for your college.
The proposed protocols, if enacted, would effectively enable the NHS to continue to dangerously use PAs. We are clear - PAs must not assess, diagnose, or manage undifferentiated patients in any healthcare setting. Read the proposals here: cdn.intelligencebank.com/eu/share/qMb...
