Good ending: USA becomes China

Erica Wilkinson@everywhereerica.bsky.social

I don't know how many of y'all are watching the migration of American TikTokers to RedNote, but it's the most fascinating thing I've EVER SEEN HAPPEN ONLINE. 🧵

how i'd learn machine learning in 2025 if i had to start from scratch: 1. find a log that i initially planned to turn into a table leg 2. make it into a puppet that can walk and talk 3. have the puppet, through a series of adventures, turn into a real boy and realize the true value of friendship

Data implicitly requires an apprenticeship period of 1-2 years where you learn many core things on the job. We can learn from medical education. Doctors complete 4 years of med school and then do a 2 year residency. It’s a job but it’s on rails, with guidance, and a clear path to getting matched.

Every time is hear someone in data say “I’m self taught” I think — “is there another way?” #dataBS

I legit don’t understand why there is so much effort to get LLMs to try to do math. It’s a tool meant for text generation.

yep. i sincerely believe that legalizing drugs — even hard drugs — is an order of magnitude less destructive than legalizing gambling

For all the moral panic about legalizing marijuana, it seems that the much less critiqued legalization of sports betting will end up wreaking a great deal of devastation. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
