Lucinda Williams kicked off her tour last night at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. She sounds great on a career spanning set list and fronts a super tight smoking band. “Have another hurricane on me.” #lucindawilliams #varietyplayhouse

Happy Birthday to Maria Muldaur, born 9/12/1942. She began her career in the early 1960s playing fiddle in Washington Square during the folk/blues revival and is still going strong. Last year’s tribute to her mentor Victoria Spivey was nominated for a Grammy. It’s a great album.

I’m stunned to hear that Cassandra Wilson has passed away. I’ve been eagerly awaiting for her to make a triumphant return. She was the most innovative and soulful jazz and blues singer of the last 30 years. For me, every new album was an event and her live shows were sublime. Blue lights till dawn.

One of the greatest musicians in American music history, tenor saxophonist Lester “Pres” Young was born 8/27/1909. “You just fight for your life, that’s it. Until death do we part, you got it made.”

The great vocalist, songwriter and bandleader Abbey Lincoln (also known at various points in her life as Anna Marie Woolridge, Gabby Lee, and Aminata Moseka) was born 8/6/1930. “ You Gotta Pay The Band”!

“But me, I’m still on the road/ Headin’ for another joint” Last night, Bob Dylan brought his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour to Macon, GA, home of Little Richard, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers. What a great show!

Bob Dylan brought his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour to Chattanooga last night. This edition featured both guitarists exclusively on acoustic guitars and Dylan on electric piano. He broke out the harmonica for the finale. Always a thrill to be in Dylan’s presence and witness him in action.

Jeff Bezos is worth $220 billion. After building that fortune from overworking and exploiting his own workers, Bezos is now developing a fund to acquire manufacturing companies and automate them. Why do we always hear about immigrants taking jobs when the oligarchs are actually to blame?
