Shelly Oil, lead singer of the early 90s punk band The Suckotashes, best known for their song "I Won't Go On A Date (In An Apartheid State)", calls the president "Donald Slump" in latest TikTok kerfluffle [click here]

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

what if Warren Zevon's song The Factory was about The Cheesecake Factory? i see that you're already laughing! well, i imagined it, too. and i think it would go ... a little something like this:

i've written a beautiful, aching love song, one which will endure for half a century or more! it sings the praises of my beloved's most salient and striking feature: her sleeves

the national news stories are getting too confusing and magical realismy. a bar with an exclusive clientele of disabled lesbians? a priceless mechanical bird? these should be the news stories in a damn murakami or tom robbins book

when i was a kid and i'd get a new toy, i'd imagine how i could foil a bank robbery using it. like those stretchy sticky hands you get from the quarter machine. you could grab the gun right out of the bad guy's hands from across the room!

No wrong answers!

this is probably all downstream of some rich pervert funding deepfake research to get out from under the M.A.D. blackmail web that has ruled the world since the 50s

there can be no competitive advantage in using a public AI model. your competitors can access it as easily as you. therefore any task that can be done by the model is non-value-added and is a candidate for elimination from the business process.

let's put this another way: no one will pay you for using a public model. why should they? only a proprietary model can offer any competitive advantage. a public model can reduce headcount (NNVA). since this is also available to the competition, you might be forced into using it for this purpose.

LLM is not comparable to the enabling software of the past like CAD. those require trained and experienced users. those users of the enabling technology are the value-add, which cannot be easily duplicated and for which your customers pay you.

if i were a frontier AI company, i wouldn't simply use it to create and sell countless incredible and profitable innovations and products, which it can definitely do. i would instead sell subscriptions to cubicle dwellers, at an enormous loss.
