Bragg Your Pattern

🎉740 Crystal explorer kits sent to primary schools all over Australia and New Zealand - the last 10 will get sent out this week! Thanks to everyone who signed up for one. #BraggYourPattern

Finding the patterns on my journey to #IUCr2026 starting off leaving the Austron and it's beautiful pattern tiles in the user lounge 🤩💎 #BraggYourPattern

A few days ago it's been confirmed that IUCr2032 will be hosted in South Korea, Incheon; walking across the wonderful Incheon airport I think crystallographers from all over the world will agree the choice is truly "spot on" 😌 #BraggYourPattern, #IUCr2032

Who's going to #IUCr2026 in Calgary? As the world's crystallographers 'assemble' in Canada - can we post some #BraggYourPattern pictures that we find on our journeys?

Reminder that one of the best #scicomm tools is still a USB microscope. #BraggYourPattern

#FourierTiler already gets fans requesting options that I really had to add.. so here you go: release upgrade! github.com/stecanossa/F... New options: Log scale, non-squared FT magnitude, and export of 16-bit tiff images for those who cannot really stand small "dynamic ranges" 🗻 #BraggYourPattern

Found this pattern on a sun-dried wooden pillar on a hike today - nice educational analogue for the mosaic structure of single crystals isn't it? Such a well behaved cracking #BraggYourPattern

We've raced past 500 schools and now well over 650! Look how spread out those locations are. We're really happy that our Crystal Explorer Kits are reaching remote primary schools all over. #BraggYourPattern

And of course now anyone can flood Bluesky with their custom patterns... add the tag #FourierTiler so people don't miss any and can find them back! And of coruse, let's saturate #Braggyourpattern as well 😏

BIG THANKS to the @ccdc.cam.ac.uk team for new funds for our next big outreach project!!

#BraggYourPattern Seoul Edition #3: detail of a bronze sculpture at Ewha Womans University. amorphous in a way, crystalline in another... Depending on the wavelength ✨

#BraggYourPattern Seoul Edition #2: a... "45° stone wall"? Not quite sure how to call it but I questioned my cartesian reference for a second... Spotted in Namsan Sky Forest trail.

#BraggYourPattern Seoul Edition #1: it must have taken an incredible patience to make this packing masterpiece decorating Sungnyemun Gate 🌺

The Romans were clearly on to something #BraggYourPattern

Here's the latest distribution map. 53 more schools have signed up since the post below! The most recent order is from a remote school in the Pilburra (NW part of WA), somewhere down the track in the photo. The Satellite view reinforces how remote it is. They also have an #elementsets on its way!

We just crossed the milestone of the 500th school to sign up for their crystal explorer kit!! #BraggYourPattern

What did you do today? I added plane waves. #BraggYourPattern

Yes I'm the weirdo that goes to the beach for the patterns #BraggYourPattern

The GingerBread Instruments is back after last year hiatus (blame on flamingos). #chemchat, can you determine the wallpaper group? #crystallography #BraggYourPattern

This looks an amazing resource for STEM, crystallography is a cross-discipline adventure!

Another one for #BraggYourPattern

And here we have our Fourier transform nr. 58! As far as I'm concerned, perhaps the most enigmatic and unexpected spectrum so far... anyway, quite a spectacle! #BraggYourPattern #Fouriertransform #crystallography As always, more on behance.net/specialdefects and instagram.com/specialdefects

Mesmerizing!

A bit of an #outreach win today - orders from Flinders Island, a remote island off the coast of Tasmania, for both a Crystal Explorer Kit (for their primary students) and an Elements Set (for their secondary students)! #elementsets #crystallography #ozchem #BraggYourPattern

Attend crystal school ✅ Now it’s time to #BraggYourPattern

Time for a new 57th entry in my #Reciprocart gallery! This time we look at the frequency spectrum of a Hyperbolic tiling of triangles 📐 Unsurprisingly (for the experienced) it's a bunch of lines... but the hexagonal symmetry is visible if one looks close enough 🧐 #crystallography #Braggyourpattern

Day one of our 2025 Crystallography Workshop! Featuring a special pop-up talk from @sbattenresearch.bsky.social about this year's chemistry Nobel Prize, and outreach training where everyone could make their own lolly crystal structure 🍭💎 @crystallised-cricket.com #BraggYourPattern #OzChem

Still making my mind up if this is a good #BraggYourPattern or not - nice nod to Escher, but sort of annoys me the colour fish are sitting above the tiled layer!

When diffraction data has low resolution you can always make some Rorschach Tests out of it. #crystallography #Braggyourpattern

In case someone was wondering about the origin of those frequences... 😌 I admit this is pretty challenging to decipher in terms of real-space to reciprocal-space relationship, without knowing know how it is made. #FourierTransform #Crystallography #Braggyourpattern

Setting out today on a road-trip with the prototype 'Crystal-A-Con in a box', all you need to keep 50 exciable primary school kids #Crystallographically entertained and informed for an hour at a time??? Wish us luck!!
