And let's not forget, corporate stock buybacks were effectively illegal until 1982. "Prior Legal Status: Stock buybacks were not strictly ... a statutory crime, but large-scale repurchases...were treated by under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 as a potential form of market manipulation."

GM has made major layoffs throughout 2026. But its net profits for Q3 2026 rose 151% compared to a year ago. Its CEO was paid $30M in 2025 (333x more than the median employee). And GM is planning $20 billion in stock buybacks β€” the largest in US automaker history. Corporate greed in a nutshell.

If you want to know why everything is so fucked up in America right now...and why poor people are being thrown off Medicare because the Federal government views them as parasites on the system, this is a good place to start.

If you paid any federal income tax last year, then you paid more than these profitable corporations. When I say the system is broken, this is what I mean.

After Google rejected the request, Trump said: β€œWe’ve got the Gulf, we’ve got a beautiful lake, and and now [we] need a river.'” I have a suggestion. Rename the Rio Grande the Rio Trump. Because of climate change, it's shrinking and drying up - just like Trump. www.newsweek.com/trump-asked-...

It is baffling to me that there are still so many people in this country who care more about guns than about children that we can't get rid of the 2nd Amendment. Or, as the artist herself put it: "Not a single child has died from a mass reading."

Yep.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

If this country was truly β€œpro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage. And we certainly wouldn't have public executions. The right-wing agenda isn’t about β€œlife.” It's about cruelty.

New WHPS's first press conference: 1. A long-winded nothing-burger opening statement. 2. Three questions - from Breitbart, Fox News, and Daily Mail - followed by a hasty exit that got an "aghast reaction," according to Vaughn Hillyard. Honestly, has there ever been a better WHPS than CJ Cregg?

J.D. Vance made a fool of himself trying to define socialism. Luckily, a growing majority of Americans aren't falling for his pathetic red-baiting scare tactics.

Post by X user β€œRed Eagle Updates” claimed Denzel Washington had called Trump β€œa great friend and an even better president.” Anyone who knows ANYTHING about D.W. knew this would be discredited in 20 seconds. Proving once again that MAGAs are among the dumbest ("with a B') people in America.

When you call your senators and reps to express your outrage about selling out Ukraine to Russia and televised firing squads, don't just tell them this makes you ashamed to be an American, demand that they tell Trump this makes you ashamed to be an American. Push them to confront the POTUS.

Oops. BREAKING NEWS: CNN's Scott Jennings threatens law suit after WH Press Secretary job goes to another blonde. Said Jennings, "This is bull****! I would have had *gender affirming* surgery (he said with air quotes) and gone blonde, but we all know the President won't hire trannies! It's B.S.!"

As Trump demonizes cities, remember this: Residents of "blue" states send more tax money to Washington than they get back in federal help, while residents of β€œred” states send less money to Washington than they get back in federal help. Just thought I should point that out.

Republicans' fear of fake socialism in the United States is bringing about real fascism in the United States. Mainly because they are too ignorant to know the difference.

The House voted to condemn β€œsocialism” earlier this week. Listen, I’ve been in and around politics for over 50 years. I grew up during McCarthyism and the β€œred Scare” of the 1950s. I’ve seen all of this fear-mongering before. Here’s what’s really going on.

Dear Senator Schumer: RESIGN.

A parable: Yesterday, a whistleblower provided us a blueprint of Trump's plan to cheat in the midterms by trashing (disproportionately Democratic) mail ballots by the truckload. Hours later, House Democrats provided the decisive votes to fund Trump's government. www.offmessage.net/p/stop-donal...

Plus a $2.9B tariff refund this year, which comes after it jacked up prices on consumers. Walmart now claims that its refund will go towards lowering prices. But how much will actually go towards providing some relief to consumers instead of more stock buybacks and lucrative exec pay packages?

Here's my question. Is the eviseration of the Defense Department of its critical leadership positions a way of weakening the military so that there will no one left to will stand in the way when Trump decides to use it to permanently end our democracy?

6/ The DSA needs to stop engaging in childish celebrations of a despotic leader who imprisoned opponents - and whose greatest accomplishments were literacy, universal healthcare, and forcing people to figure out how to keep a 1950s Chevy Bel Air running 70 years down the road.

7/ They are wasting an incredibly valuable opportunity to restructure what is causing this national nightmare: Libertarian, free-reign, unregulated capitalism, designed to benefit only a tiny sliver of the very rich at the very top of the economic mountain. Dear DSA: Grow up and get to work!

4/ Republicans will, of course, scream, "Communist!" [Tell that to REI's employee/owners.] Think of it this way. The MOMENT Bezos hired his first employee, he [& Mackenzie Scott] stopped being the sole drivers of Amazon's value. Each subsequent hire was intended to help build that value...

5/ Each employee today helps continue to build value. [Otherwise, they wouldn't have a job.] If that's true, why should only 'C' Suite executives benefit from all that hard work? You don't need "communism" to build an equitable economy. You only need reign in our basest instincts of greed.

3/ Imagine what it would do to our economy if even the janitor cleaning toilets in a distribution center got a few hundred shares of Amazon stock every year. Jeff Bezos could turn half his stock back over to an employee compensation fund and still never be able to spend all his money.
