One thing Dems could campaign on in the lead up to ‘28 is mandating that all brains from deceased magats be placed in glass jars the way Jeffrey Dahmer’s was so they can be studied, preferably by Dr. Fauci personally.

If you happen to come down with something serious and you’re on Medicare it doesn’t take long to find out that it’s designed to bankrupt you.

The argument that trump doesn't meet the constitutional criteria for treason goes out the window if Russia's military aid to Iran enters the equation. And impeachment doesn't need a criminal statute; only prosecution under fed law does. Dems better prosecute if they ever get the chance. But won't.

A long French/Times piece about trump/Ukraine THAT MAINTAINS A TONE OF MYSTIFICATION at why trump does what he does. He skirts it: Just affinity for putin? A whiff of corruption? But in keeping with Times editorial policy, French does not so much as mention the elephant shitting the room: Treason.

Putin tightens the screws on trump and his doing what he's told is obvious treason. The softening that @markjacob.bsky.social spoke about in his interview with the Times is never on more glaring display than in their failure to quote any of the many quotable people who would say it out loud.

My first day as a new flight instructor I gave Chuck Barris of Gong Show fame his first lesson. He liked it and when he booked more lessons with me I got fired because the chief instructor wanted to be the one to fly with the celeb. Barris never went back there.

This is why it’s surprising that no one has replied to criticism of Democratic Socialism by saying, “We live under Republican Socialism now and how’s that working out for you?”

Tom the Dancing Bug, by Ruben Bolling@rubenbolling.bsky.social

Oligarchs are free market absolutists when it comes to minimum wage, workers' rights and the environment. But when it comes to their businesses, suddenly free markets don't work, and they become ardent Socialists, demanding government handouts, tax breaks and subsidies.

Every case that so-called serious thinkers and journalists make against trump serving putin relies on the single foundation that it can't be true because it is unthinkable. We know that no amount of evidence can convince them because there has been more than enough of it for decades. And here we are

Simply astonishing that any Dems continue to use twitter. The delusion that they reach an important audience in algorithms controlled by a megalomaniacal Nazi villain is absurd and the lack of principle and weakness it takes to stay there is nauseating.

So please tell me again why it would be wrong to nationalize a company whose tech its owner uses to help Russia defeat our ally? SpaceX must be nationalized. Period. And Elon Musk treated like the criminal he is. Otherwise America accepts that it is powerless against money.

Why, in a language as varied and rich and nuanced as English, does there exist no word for a large amount of money other than ‘whopping?’ Is using whopping for everything from the price of a gallon of gas and concert tickets to the U.S. national debt specified in journalism contracts?

So when trump scribbles on a piece of paper that absolutely everyone employed during his administration is pardoned for any and all federal crimes they may ever have committed is the Dem response (should there be a Dem admin in ‘29) oh, well, that’s that, he got us?

Vermont, which, contrary to its picturesque reputation, is largely a poor slum state dotted with pretty autumn colors, votes Dem for Congress but keeps sending R Phil Scott, who allows 6-day blackouts in 10° weather so as not to inconvenience power companies and war zone roads, to the gov office.

It seems quite obvious that the Constitution *is* the crisis. It depends on the unwritten operating principle that a degree of honor sufficient to maintain guardrails would always exist. That’s been proven to be nothing but a quaint 18th Century conceit that no longer exists. 1/2

2/2 Add to that that in a time when a polarized electorate acts on what purchased politicians and oligarch-owned media companies tell them, the Constitution is no longer practically amendable. If it can’t be amended, it is dead. 2/2

Texas mythos: Lean Real Americans™ in weathered Levis, straw cowboy hats and hand-tooled belts with silver rodeo buckles. Texas reality: Fat unshaven slobs in Walmart t-shirts and knockoff Adidas shorts slung low under beer guts and ass cracks with long, filthy toenails in $3 plastic sandals.

Dems should introduce legislation that creates a colossal fine and a permanent ban on future business with the federal government for any demolition or construction company that destroys American monuments without congressional approval.

Up in the Vermont woods today where I take Pokey Beker, Jr., Jr. on her mouse safari we just encountered a totally buttass naked guy hiking. He said, Sorry! and I said no problem and he asked me for directions to some ancient quarry.

U.K. film producer Jeremy Thomas just passed away. This shot of two of the women who played royal courtiers is from the set of Little Buddha, which he produced. On a set defined by the cruelty of the Italian half of the crew, he, like the rest of the UK crew, was always smooth, kind and calm. RIP.

Millions of Americans have been welcomed in #Nepal, one of the poorest and most beautiful countries on Earth, with grace and hospitality for decades. And trump brags about sending $500,000 there from the US in a time of such tragic need?! We are the most disgraceful shithole country on the planet

Dolly had an apartment in the same building as my dad 40 years ago. Everyone—janitors, doormen, everyone—loved her. She was a big star who cared about them, always stopped to chat and was legendarily the most generous and consistent tipper anyone had ever heard of. She made everyone’s day every day.

SCOTUS’s reasoning today is that trump can order agencies to prepare to start shooting Americans in the street and it’s okay because since it’s only a plan states don’t need to prepare and therefore don’t even have standing to complain about it. What utter scumbags.

No one knows exactly how wings work.

forget the thing everyone in your field knows and no one else does. what's something you think that everyone else in your field would find shocking, and people outside your field wouldn't find surprising at all?

Another terrific thread from Edith Mirante, author (most recently) of the beautiful collection of essays, Where the Mithuns Are #books

Edith Mirante@edithmirante.bsky.social

1. This History Thread is about the roads of Burma (Myanmar). In contrast to rivers & railways (subjects of previous threads) these transport corridors have often been lower priority. Currently roads are scenes of coup regime convoys & anti-coup ambushes. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Just finished this collection of essays by @edithmirante.bsky.social. It’s stunning. The title Mithuns are a friendly, white-socked cattle of south Asia, and Edith loves them. The intro essay is about meeting them, but, characteristically, Edith barely mentions her own drone-running for rebels… 1/4

3/4 I really loved it. Edith, by the way, has a long history of extremely high-stakes, purposeful adventure. She is one of the greatest allies the revolution in Burma ever had and has risked a lot for it. Her commitment, insight and generosity shine on every beautifully written page. BUY THIS BOOK!

2/4 … fighting the vicious Burmese fascist junta. That subtlety pervades all the wonderful essays, about wartime artists, an interred Japanese man who fought for the right to fight for the US in WWII, about Indian burial mounds, her part in ICE protests and much more. It is a beautiful #book...

The Qatari bribe jet should be confiscated by a future admin. But if it’s not, a second-tier way to shove a spike up trump’s ass is simply to invalidate one little piece of paper. It’s called an Airworthiness Certificate and can be withdrawn by the FAA administrator. Grounding by stroke of a pen.1/2

That small sized piece of paper must be on board every airplane. Doesn’t matter if they refuse to hand it over, as per the law, because invalidation absolutely grounds the plane. Pilots lose licenses for even trying to fly. No insurance, no flight clearances. Plane is a paperweight. Presto.

Further, basis for withdrawal can be requirements to make the airplane conform to civilian specs—undo all the security mods, even if approved by supplemental type certificates. The process could be made to drag out for 100 years of inspections and paperwork and cost A LOT of money, then still deny.

If the next Dem president doesn’t outright confiscate the bribe jet, all that has to be done is for the next FAA administrator to cancel its airworthiness certificate, thereby turning it into a paperweight with the stroke of a pen. trump’s other plane could also stand some much closer inspection.

Horror movie here in the Vermont woods. I started the lawnmower and immediately got swarmed by a bunch of yellow and black stripey things. A few stung the bejeezus out of me. I think it’s a bald-faced hornet nest. All I can say is they started this war.

Every time someone is in the chair for a Senate confirmation hearing and they refuse to answer on the grounds that they won’t discuss a hypothetical the response should be, “Then why are you here? Your confirmation is hypothetical, too.”

Don’t make me laugh. Anyone who thinks Cornyn, after a Senate career featuring a lengthy stint as a magat whore, will go against the grain on this, despite his trump-induced retirement, is suffering from delusions. This nom goes to the floor.

And Thune will make sure nothing happens until Lyndsey’s sister is seated. They’ll let Collins vote against, Murkowski might thumb it down, and at worst have a Vance tiebreaker. A party devoted to corruption can not resist an utterly corrupt attorney general.

I was walking my dog in Eufala, Alabama one day about ten years ago and took this photo on an iPhone. I do not remember how I got this effect other than by just editing and then running the shot through more of the same edits after saves. Looks like it could have been on a Confederate dollar.
