A fun addition this year: Readers can play investor by giving $1 million in imaginary funding to one or more companies!

Meet the companies rethinking how we make medicines, food, materials, and more: cen.acs.org/business/sta... #10StartUpsToWatch #chemsky 🧪

As the Nobel committee learned last week, chemical structures can be tricky, especially if they've got multiple stereocenters! We at @cenmag.bsky.social know that readers care about the molecules we publish being accurate and we work hard to make sure they're drawn right! cen.acs.org/synthesis/st...

cen.acs.orgEditorial: How many chemists does it take to check a stereocenter? The 2026 chemistry Nobel announcement sparked a frenzy of chirality fact-checking. Turns out, nailing stereochemistry is tough for everyone.

One last thing from my very busy week @cenmag.bsky.social! Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder invented a system of inks for creating full-color tattooed images that appear and disappear in response to light. And the PI tested it on himself! Read more: cen.acs.org/materials/na...

I went on the Stereo Chemistry pod to talk about--what else--stereochemistry! That being the topic of this year's #ChemNobel. (Cut for time: me yapping about linocut, neutrinos, and a running joke among the science team concerning the chirality of cows.)

C&EN reporter @bribarbu.bsky.social joins host @ginacvitale.bsky.social to discuss what Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai discovered, how their insights are now applied to medicines, and how their work shed light on the origin of life itself: cen.acs.org/people/nobel... #ChemNobel #NobelPrize #chemsky🧪

it was all hands (get it??) on deck for #ChemNobel coverage this morning--Henri Kagan and Henso Soai winning for work related to chiral catalysis was not on my bingo board but we love a good fundamental chem prize with big commercial apps over here! cen.acs.org/people/nobel...

Can I use my work card to buy a skeleton outfit for the Phoebe Bridgers concert next week if I then use it to make a video about skeletal editing? (For legal reasons this is a joke! I use work funds responsibly!)

Adrian Figg was a delight to profile for T12 and his opinions on ice cream are 100% correct.

Hot people do spreadsheets and organic chemistry confirmed

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social

There is no market for your weird dude things. Hot people don’t need pink-haired commies to stop them from coming to your weird dude thing. Hot people have so many options - film studies! food studies! theory! Hell, even spreadsheets and organic chem have their charms.

Unusual radical species whose applications previously sat largely in the territory of physics have become accessible to bench chemists!

“We can do hydrogenation now without molecular hydrogen, without any palladium or any metal,” Roopender Kumar says, “enabled by the hydrogen atom, this tiny, beautiful element.” cen.acs.org/synthesis/fi... #chemsky 🧪

I still have so many questions about what, exactly, went down at MIT last week but I am glad that it seems like nobody was seriously harmed!

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology reopened a chemistry building Aug. 31 after closing it for several days after a hazardous material incident involving a graduate student. #chemsky 🧪

Very very cool interactive data story from some of C&EN's finest!

Pharma journalism focuses a lot on the great new thing - the daraxonrasib, the tirzepatide. But I think it can be useful to look back at the 90% of drug candidates that fail and try to get a handle on why. That's what this story tries to do. /5. cen.acs.org/pharmaceutic...

cen.acs.orgThese drug candidates excited researchers 10 years ago. What happened?Acetyl CoA carboxylase inhibitors have been investigated for treating acne and liver disease, but the discarded candidates show why it’s so hard to make a metabolic medicine

Curious about the clinical candidates presented in #FirstTimeDisclosures at #ACSFall2026? You can now read my write up for @cenmag.bsky.social. It's mostly molecular structures with bullet points, but there are some notes on things I learned during the talks. #chemsky cen.acs.org/pharmaceutic...

This was a fun one! Very classic Newscripts. A friend and I have been texting each other pretty much every morning with our multiplet.app daily puzzle times for a couple months now so I am super curious how the #chemsky #chemchat community will find it!

TIL the University of Chicago has a Botany Pond It's a shame there isn't a Chemistry Pond, you could have a big open reactor, some stir bars within, whiteboards explaining the chemistry and some condensers recirculating solvent
