Here I explain that the purported "exceptions" in the Amendment 3 abortion ban for rape and incest are useless as written and the pro-Amendment 3 campaign isn't even pretending the legislature would do anything to attempt to make them mean anything. Gift link:

stltoday.comCounterpoint: Rape, incest 'exceptions' in Amendment 3 are dishonest & cruelTwo years ago, Missouri voters rejected the state's ban on abortion. Amendment 3, on this year's Nov. 3 ballot, would repeal that constitutional right and allow the ban to go

Last week, before Missouri was national news for Sen. Schmitt's embarrassing basketball interrogation, we were national news for the embarrassing debacle MO officials made of our election I wrote about why Republican officials' willingness to openly attack the Missouri Supreme Court is ominous

Just a reminder that this is the same Sen. Schmitt who repeatedly claimed that Chief Judge Boasberg was receiving a disproportionate share of Trump-related cases because he confused the D.C. Superior Court (which has 62 judges) with the D.C. district court (which has 15).

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

Heidi Overton said yesterday of Mifepristone that “according to FDA standards, the drug is safe and effective as labeled today.” She said something similar about vaccines. Don’t be fooled. That’s exactly the same as Brett Kavanaugh saying Roe v. Wade “is settled as a precedent of the Supreme Court.”

Why in the world are these judges pretending they can’t read a boilerplate order so SCOTUS can smack them down again? They have lifetime tenure, no need to perform for Trump. Unless they’re all going to do crazy things to audition for scotus?

The Eighth Circuit has ordered the district court to reinstate Missouri’s 2025 congressional map. But before folks freak out, it also ordered that court to pause such a ruling for long enough that the challengers can (and will) seek further review from #SCOTUS: s3.documentcloud.org/documents/28...

It wasn’t just an unprecedented attack on democracy and the rule of law — it was also a colossal waste of resources for a gambit Rs must have known would fail. Lighting on fire our constitution, their credibility with the MO courts, and a whole lot of tax dollars all to perform for Trump:

I spend a lot of time and words being sad about Missouri, but we do have a branch of government that operates like they believe laws still exist.

I wrote about some of the women who have been working on abortion access in Missouri since the first clinic in the state opened in 1973. all the “out of state interests” accusations around Amendment 4 were infuriating bc these women have been doing this work right here for a looong time #NoOn3

Funny how after every SCOTUS ruling striking down some protection from government abuse, the officials those protections restrained — cops, prosecutors, Republican state electeds — immediately start acting in the precise manner SCOTUS assured us they no longer do.
