One of the many upsides of plug-in solar, power is truly with the people. You're saving money, generating power, and have the creative freedom to create a DIY set-up. How do you think the DIY aspect will contribute to the plug-in solar movement? www.zdnet.com/home-and-off...

Notice the word choice 'consider'---this bill would not require states to introduce legislation for plug-in solar. It's rather a suggestion to the states with incentives to adopt. There's some technicalities, similar to all plug-in solar bills, 391 W exemption, HOA involvement, amongst others.

It's a huge step and clearly highlights the momentum of plug-in solar, though it is late in the year and the 2026 legislative cycle. Our policy team is working to refine this bill and make sure that plug-in solar is truly as accessible as possible, 'available to anyone who wants it!'

As mentioned in the article, "the legislation would require all state public utility commissions to consider rules rules that would enable Americans to access this DIY clean energy tech, and would create a program to help lower-income households afford the systems." That's the main idea. -->

Happy Monday, everyone. What's a recent renewable energy source you remember seeing that really left you in awe? Here's one from myself, Luke, Bright Saver team member! The Amayo Wind Farm, located on the southern border of Nicaragua, which I visited on a surf trip this past spring.

It provides roughly 6% of ALL of Nicaragua's electricity needs. It has been built in two different phases, now producing approximately 260 GWh a year. To note, there's a lot more than the 3 turbines shown in the video...

Bright Saver featured in Nat Geo this AM! "To encourage people to adopt renewable energy, Bright Saver sells plug-in systems without markups. Danz paid under $300 for a one-panel unit and affixed it with metal clips over his small, third-floor balcony." www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/...

nationalgeographic.comSolar Panels That Plug Into Your Wall Are About to Be EverywhereCalifornia is the latest state to pass a law making it easier to install balcony-friendly solar panels. Renewable energy experts think the new technology is about to take off.

On a personal note, I've always respected and appreciated the work from Nat Geo across all facets! It's super exciting to see Bright Saver mentioned in such a wide range of outlets, with Nat Geo particularly being true to protecting Earth and documenting its beauty. - Luke | Bright Saver

Another quote: "The appeal of being able to make your own electricity, and for less money than you can buy it from a utility, that’s universal for Americans,” says Joshua Pearce, an electrical engineer at Western University in Ontario, Canada, who advanced the merits of plug-in solar a decade ago."

Our team has been busy at Climate Week New York, speaking at multiple events and connecting with fellow clean energy advocates. Yesterday, with Solar United Neighbors (SUN), we hosted a panel discussion: "Plug-In Solar and the Consumer-Led Clean energy Transition" More in comments!

Featuring Bill McKibben and Utah State Rep Raymond Ward: The conversation traced how plug-in solar laws have spread, starting with Utah, and the opportunities in other states. Panelists stressed that renters' rights will be key in driving plug-in solar's momentum, as was the case in Germany!

With time running short in the fight against climate change, some panelists also called for a bit of solarpunk spirit, and even guerrilla solar, to accelerate this movement. For those who are curious about solar punk, be on the lookout for a further explanation on IG soon.

I am a scientist – and the answer is climate change. Yes, there is nuance. Yes, it could take a long time to identify the precise mechanisms. But there is no question why ice and snow-related disasters are on the rise. Our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, and humans are responsible.

In Nepal, it will most likely take months for scientists to understand exactly what led to deadly flash floods that killed over 1,000 people and left thousands missing. Early theories posit glacier meltwater and a thawing permafrost could have contributed to bedrock collapse.
