I see so many people getting masteries on RetroAchievements, and I'm not sure I have it in me anymore to "master" most retro games. But it's working as a great way to get me to "finish" them, and have a log of what games I've played.

Even as someone who wasn't the biggest fan of Bioware's style of games (legit, I think my favourite probably WAS Sonic Chronicles), it's just really painful to see these companies continue to be closed as the AAA industry continues to chase the impossible in a feeble attempt for number to go up.

I kept trying to pick a game to play all night tonight, couldn't find anything good. So... I beat Pepsiman, I guess? It's definitely one of the games of all time

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of Digimon: Digital Monsters

Done an update on my stream audio, so either everything is gonna sound much better and clearer, or I've broken everything as I often do. Find out tonight I guess!

My brain keeps whispering the cursed words "You should make a new Vtuber model again!", and "Change up your stream setup, it could be so much better!" Love when I end up making work for myself.

Honestly refreshing to see a recomp clearly stating this. Go check it out, tbh

The first beta release of the MediEvil Recomp project is out now! This lets you play MediEvil with widescreen support, scaling aspect ratio, increased draw distance/render distance, increase FPS support, PGXP, Better Terrain, Frame Interpolation, and other things all natively running on your PC.

Update, I finally played it after all the updates and downloads. The vibe, immaculate. The controls and tutorial, god awful. Truly the highs and lows of old MMO design.

Older games were full of random tidbits of information that was purely there for worldbuilding, with only minor mechanical purpose. It added a lot of charm. Nowadays, it'd be a sign saying "This cave is full of ZUBAT! Anyone travelling through these caves are recommended to stock up on REPEL!"

god this game is awesome. they manage to compact so much personality into everything! I like how every boy trainer your age is like "I enjoy wearing shorts in the grass" and every girl trainer's like "please do not touch me or make eye contact :)". I even like this sign warning me about ZUBAT!

It makes the worlds feel built for you to play in, as opposed to older games having worlds you felt like a small part of. Even after capturing all the legendaries and becoming Champion, little Jimmy has his own shorts-related life going on, he hasn't been following you on the news.

I know a lot of this may be nostalgia-goggles. I guess as I'm getting older, I'm just noticing the artifice of modern AAA media, and wishing for more of the mystery of a world that's new to me again, that wasn't waiting for me, that feels like it existed before me, and will continue after I'm gone.

This isn't me adding to the "Modern games handhold you too much" hate train by the way. Just thinking about modern games having massive worlds, but worldbuilding is inextricably attached to gameplay mechanics. An NPCs sob story isn't just worldbuilding, it'll end up as part of a quest later.

Hard to narrow it down, so here's 6 of the most formative character designs for my childhood. I was a nerdy edgy kid...

Quelaag@quelaag.bsky.social

When yall were kids (think like.. age 4-12) what was the coolest character design you had ever seen that was super formative?

With the 9 anime/game/manga/etc. That Shaped Who I Am trend, a lot of people see it as "the earliest <media> that impacted me". I prefer a mix of early formative stuff and more recent media as well. It's less about showing my faves, and more showing different periods of my life, even recent ones.

We're constantly being shaped and changed by our lives. You're hopefully not the same person you were after some childhood media "shaped" you. You should continue to grow, even well into adulthood. I've been impacted just as much by Digimon as a kid as I have been by Witch Hat Atelier as an adult.

Hell, I love retro games, but I still feel the impact of how Control, or Pragmata hit me. They might not be on my 9 grid (as mentioned, I am above most things, a retro freak), but I see some people dismiss recent media from being "formative", and I don't think that's fair.

Watched "Return to Silent Hill". Went in hearing it was terrible, and I don't know if it's better than I expected, or if, as my partner says, I've just already forgotten most of the bad parts.

As sad as it is to change Angela and Laura's characters in the way the film did, it definitely could have worked with a bucketload more subtlety. Did Mary's face need to be on those monsters? Hell no.

A lot of the film feels like James Sunderland's wish fulfilment, which almost works in a twisted way. Like this Silent Hill is simultaneously punishing him, while giving him everything he wants. There's a sad comfort in that. But then there's a room with 50 nurses in it and you get ripped out of it.

Maybe it could have been an okay reinterpretation, if it weren't for bad cg, bad dialogue, annoying jumpscares, an innate fear of letting a good shot hang, the weird bus scene, the awful bar scene, the doll baby.

Can't a girl expose her glowing weak point for five seconds without it getting targeted for critical damage that bypasses my damage reduction?

I hate when I’m hit with a weapon or elemental damage type that corresponds to my weakness
