Brutal Sun Art

I don't just paint cats. Sometimes I paint horses. This 8"x10" original painting, "Sentinel", was painted using golden acrylic paints on wrapped canvas.

"Sugar Witch", acrylic, 11"x14" Nope, this isn't a digital photobash, or AI. This is a traditional painting. Though, I did use a digital photobash as my source. I hope you like this greedy lil' kitty! For a short time, she'll be available here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/sug...

I just made a video talking about why I paint mermaid cats.

A small calico purrmaid lazily swims through coral reefs after a long nap. That's when she spots the perfect fish. Not big enough to give her trouble. But just big enough to make a meal. This original 11"x14" acrylic painting is available until tonight: bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/sar...

"Pumpkin Spice", one of the handcrafted resin kitties available in my shop: bazaar.brutalsun.com/collections/...

Months ago, I DESTROYED one of my paintings to create another. Sometimes I have to. The MDF boards I use aren't cheap, and if they are, they're not reliably available. #art #paintingcats #acrylicpainting #traditionalart

Just sharing one of the fun cats I recently created. I had to make fake grass out of paper, because there is no grass in the desert where I live. Ya'll, I'm feeling so depressed this week. I'm sure other artists reading this can relate. It feels like no matter how ... (Continued in image ALT ➡️)

I made an adorable tortie purrmaid figurine, by pouring alternate resin colors into the mold. Afterwards, I spent a long time giving her seed bead accessories. This rare kitty figurine can be found in my shop! #tortoiseshell #cat #art #resinart #mermaid #fantasyart #handmade #OOAK #beadart

"The Debut." This festive feline scene was painted with Golden acrylics onto a 20"x16" wrapped cotton canvas. This piece has been sold, and is on its way home. #impressionism #painting #art #cats #felinefashion #catinadress #dancingcats #catart #blackkitten #whitecats #traditionalart #originalart

Whew! It's been awhile since I've been on here—I just got back from a long road trip. Somehow, despite the chaos, I finished a batch of resin cat figurines. You can buy them here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/collections/... #cats #art #resin #figurines #fantasy #colorful #cute #kitties #handmade

The unicorn cat's auction closed with no bids, even though the auction started at only $100. I didn't wallow. Instead I sanded the unicorn cat down, and repainted the board with ... Gary! You can bid on Gary here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/gar... #art #snailcat #acrylicpainting #fantasyart

Here is the unicorn cat again, this time painted traditionally using acrylics. It is a 14"x11". I named it, "Sundance". Until tomorrow night, you can bid on this original painting here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/sun... #art #cats #unicorncats #acrylicpainting #traditionalart #originalpainting

Remember the sloppy sketch I did of a unicorn cat earlier? Here is the completed digital version. Now, I'm gonna paint this traditionally, using acrylics. #art #drawingcats #digitalart #wip #catart #unicorncat #unicat #fantasycatart #artstudy

Finally, got some mermaid kitties cast. Won't be too many of these. Making their mold was utter hell. Which is a shame, because these are so dang cute! You can snap them up here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/collections/... #figurines #resinart #purrmaids #cats #mermaidcats #merkitty #catart #moldmaking

Unless I’m using photo references, all my traditional cat paintings start like this: a sloppy scribble on my computer. I’m thrilled to say I’m no longer drawing with a mouse, as I did for decades. I finally have a Wacom tablet and pen. Drawing is fun again! (Continued in image ALT ➡️)

"I Am the Storm," acrylics, 11"x14" The auction for this wonderful, witchy original painting ends at noon on Sunday. Starts at $100, no reserve. You can bid on it here: bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/i-a... #art #artforsale #catart #blackcat #witchcat #witchcraft #halloween #airbrushart #cats

"Everyday Magic," acrylics, 11"x14" I thought this was the perfect cozy-yet-creepy painting to share as the days start to cool. Well, for much of the northern hemisphere anyway—not here in Tucson, where it’s still hellishly hot. Honestly? (Continued in image ALT ➡️)

"Duty", acrylics, 9"x12" I was damn proud of this painting when I finished it. It captured the true spirit of litter box cleaning: two cats waiting for the box to be fresh, so they can christen it with poop ... while their owner looks heavenward like she might puke. (Continued in image ALT ➡️)

Y'all, I accidentally pushed the Instagram button on my tablet the other night. And I was reminded why I deserted Meta. I was served addictive reel after real, keeping me up half the night. But I didn't see a single reel from someone I actually know. Felt soulless. #ByeMeta #LeavingMeta

Just finished a batch of sparkly vibrant resin kitties. Each cat was cast from pressurized resin using a mold I made myself (as in, I sculpted the prototype). Each features hand-painted eyes. And each features a handmade beaded necklace. These cats in the shop: bazaar.brutalsun.com/collections/...

For the tiny royalty in your life, this pink toddler tee features my painting Cinderella, a fluffy black cat dashing from the ball (she’s already lost 3 of 4 slippers!). Perfect for wee princesses who love a little mischief. bazaar.brutalsun.com/products/tod...

I got these resin kitty totems, among other delights, available to buy in my shop! bazaar.brutalsun.com/collections/...

"Tidestar," acrylics, 11"x14" Another fantastical mermaid kitty. It's funny. I just got a new laptop, and I'm not accustomed to how all my work looks on its monitor. I feel this painting wasn't quite so yellow-tinted in real life. 😐

"The Red Queen," acrylics, 11"x14" I painted this together with Crimson Majesty, using the same palette for both paintings. #acrylicpainting #art #cats #paintingcats #catart #goldenacrylics

"Crimson Majesty," acrylics, 11"x14" I love painting horses of another color! This was painted with Golden acrylics. I used airbrushing, splatters, and thick brushstrokes to pull it together. #horseart #redhorse #deserthorse #equineart #fantasyhorse #acrylicpainting #paintinghorses #arabianhorse

"The Cat Artist", acrylics, 14"x11" This little monk loved painting cats! It's all he ever did. He was chided for painting them all over the paper walls. Until one night, his cat paintings came alive and protected the— (Continued in image ALT ➡️)

I just finished making some resin cats. Handmade, from a mold I made myself from a prototype I sculpted myself. Each of these has a tiny moon inside its translucent chest. They all have hand-painted eyes. You can buy them on my website here: www.brutalsun.com/sales/index.h...

"Sleeping Beauty," acrylics, 10"x8" It's been hard getting onto social media and posting regularly. Do any of you other artists have this issue? I painted this fast and loose and even used a palette knife at times to work paint onto the canvas.

"Sparkles," acrylics, 10" x 8" I painted this after watching the Barbie movie. Not that I ever need much of a nudge to make pink things. I love pink! It's a defiant upbeat color in a hard serious world. #pinkcat #cats #art #painting #acrylics #traditionalart #barbiepink #swimmingpool #summer

Here are few of the resin cats I have just posted on my website. If you buy multiples I can combine shipping. You can purchase these artisan cats here: www.brutalsun.com/sales/index.... #artforsale #resin #moldmaking #ooak #cats #art #figurines #collectibles #kitty #feline #catart #handmade

"Pink Planet," mixed media, ~3" tall I cast this cat from resin using my exclusive "Destiny" mold. And then I painted a fun graphic retro sci fi motif on her. Her finishing touch was a seed bead headband. I need to paint more like these!

"Jewel and the Jellyfish," acrylics, 8"x10" I like this painting I did a decade ago. Which is remarkable, because I hate most things I paint the second I remove them from the easel. In this painting I.... (Continued in image ALT ➡️)
