Concert tonight at the Barbican with the @londonsymphony.bsky.social and have to say it was the best live performance of Mahler 2 I've heard. Pappano crafted something special. The orchestra was frankly amazing tonight and the Contralto was so authentic and expressive. Moved to tears. Stunning.

I am watching the Matchbox movie. Fortunately I have an excellent bottle of Perrin et Fils Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 on hand to provide pleasure goggles.

The amount of cocktails I needed to get through Vigil series 3....

the full line art to my Absolutes 25. (Available for sale at CAF bill@comicartfans.com) Love doing these big wide things. On two sheets, a 22x17 and an 11x17.

layout day. six page scene where I do full breakdowns, solve all construction problems leaving only a light pass prior to inking to lock down a few key details. My favourite part of the whole process by far where a blank page comes to life. I'm inside my head accompanied today by Thomas Bergersen!

Pre-order ABSOLUTE BATMAN #25 before FOC MONDAY! This is the end of our latest story arc and the biggest issue yet from me and @nickdragotta.bsky.social! Cover by @bryanhitch.bsky.social and Brad Anderson (Part of a connecting cover across this, Absolute Superman & Absolute Wonder Woman #25)

I was asked recently (non-officially) about whether I'd ever do a "Director's Cut" of the Ultimates. Apart from it being a product of its time, that time long passed and, as such, should be left alone; if I did, it would be about 30% shorter, not longer. I speak from my art p.o.v

well, THAT page was the hardest I've had to work in a while. It's not time taken (though it did take a while) just all the moving parts and the way the figures had to function and many other factors. If I've done it right, the effort should be invisible and it will just read the way it needs to.

Somedays my brain wants to do absolutely anything but the thing it needs to.

I love my job. My mileage on my career varies for many, many reasons but Redcoat is such a pleasure. Some days are better than others but then you get an issue like issue 20 and I can't draw fast enough to get the pages out of my head.

The score for Hook remains one of Williams' most melodic. Originally intended and partly shot as a musical, JW composed all the songs. The tunes remain and form the basis of all the cues and why it remains, literally, his most lyrical. A quite wonderful score without the film that spawned it.

Daniel Pemberton's score for Masters of the Universe is an absolute delight. We all loved Flash Gordon and it's clearly been influential not least with Brian May providing some licks. It makes me smile.

Friends, WHAT IF...? SECRET WARS #1 by CAFU, David Curiel and yours truly is on final order cutoff *tomorrow*. Here is our shiny variant cover by the backbone of the original Ultimate Universe himself, Mr. @bryanhitch.bsky.social!

I adore making comics, I really do and currently maybe more than ever. But if I could write music all day, every day, I'd be even happier. I still have the ambition to have a piece performed by an orchestra.

I hate working late. I like 'normal' sorts of hours, about 8-6. If I can start earlier I will and finish earlier too but sometimes the sheer volume of stuff that has to get done exceeds the hours available so, rarely, I'm just knocking off at 11 pm. Long day but very productive (and enjoyable).

The Joe Abercrombie First Law-World of-Age of Madness books really do need the GOT tv show treatment. I do rather prefer them anyway.

issue 19 of RC right now and it's my longest run on anything ever. Ultimates was 13 (admittedly extra sized) issues, so was Ultimates 2, Venom was 16 issues (a couple of extra sized ones there too). 476 pages of RC so far which is actually the equivalent of almost 29 Marvel or DC monthlies.

My exclusive variant cover for the Superman Spider-Man crossover. I believe it's available only through Fan Expo store orders but it was certainly fun to play in this sandbox.

there's nothing wrong with having a 'comfort zone' and working to constantly refine and excel at what you do within those parameters. And usually those parameters are defined by others not you. You're doing what you enjoy doing and nobody should be telling you to work outside of what you love doing.

odd thing being 40 years in the biz. Many writers, artists, letterers, colourists & editors come up with you. Assistant editors become EiCs or publishers and creators reach new highs and new audiences. It's really lovely to see and reflect on. Then there are new generations to impress and inspire.

The weekend is upon us and that means it’s time for another bi-weekly dose of Ghost Machine Fan Content Friday! This week we are featuring… Junkyard Joe tripping robots by @common_idols The Northerner after @bryanhitch.bsky.social by @lostboy_comics

Comic-book artists work fast. We do a lot of pictures in a day. Sometimes it's not perfect. Even Beethoven wrote an occasional stinker. I can live with it. The next picture can be better but we don't stop to take in the wounded ;)

The superman march from Johnny Williams never fails to have me take flight.

this week I have done 14 pages of breakdowns, pencilled five covers and inked one of them. It appears to only be Wednesday so I feel I've earned an extra glass of wine.

A forest of pencils. A blank sheet of paper and one of these fellas is always an exciting thing.

This week on The Ghost Machines Fans Podcast we bring you a GIANT-SIZED creator interview with @bryanhitch.bsky.social AND Geoff Johns!

To celebrate our 100th episode not only will we be interviewing the incredible @geoffjohns & @bryanhitch.bsky.social, but we are giving away a copy of the 1:50 retailer incentive JIM LEE sketch variant of Geiger 19!

I'd been wanting to do this for a while but made enough time to squeeze it in. Based on George Perez' cover for New Teen Titans issue 1.

The Old Fashioned. One of the greatest cocktails ever.

as a long time pro who has had various mental health problems over the the decades and a sketchy relationship with deadlines for much of it, I've learned something: the blank page is exciting and if you don't feel like working, have a bowl of Secret Ingredient soup. The best solution to any problem.

kicked off the morning with Christopher Tin's The Drop That Contained The Sea.

Tonight is definitely a Dvorak 8 evening. Colin Davis and the LSO. 1998/9 (was there for this recording and 'twas a lovely evening rounded off with a joyous Mozart piano concerto payed by Alfred Brendel.)
