Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

lol, lmao even. every other manufacturer figured out how to make this NOT A PROBLEM years ago. it sounds like either Apple's ultra-thin glass layer is too thick around the hinge, or they didn't give the display enough clearance to flex into the hinge to avoid this. or the screen is just too rigid.

Pretty much every other globally-available book-style folding phone clocks in around 2000 USD, like the Duo. Maybe they do have similar problems, but they've also been doing this for years, now. Earlier on they likely did, but not anymore. The concept is mostly understood at this point. We *get* it.

I just. Apple really dropped the ball, here. A luxury, halo product with limited production scale at this point, having these kinds of flaws on release... maybe they'll work these out over time and have a more polished 2nd gen, but this launch compared to everyone else's devices nowadays is BAD bad.

Early models were basically considered a consumer-forward tech demo, giving time for the manufacturers to figure stuff out, Android to build in proper support, and software devs to build apps that are friendlier to these devices without just going "weird phone layout" or "weird tablet layout".

I can ignore app support troubles because yeah, this is a new device to design for, and it's possible they can't just go "weird tablet mode" for apps. I don't know those things. But I do know that hardware-wise, this is... a shitshow. These are just... *not problems* anyone else has at this scale.

But "display cracking after just a handful of uses" is not a problem others have faced in major numbers in ages, *if ever*. Obviously I don't know how exactly Apple designed the hinge and screen assembly for the Duo, but it sounds like they REALLY fucked up the design and tolerances here.

Literally every other manufacturer is probably chuckling at how much of a shitshow the Duo's launch has been. Shoddy fingerprint scanner, worse selfie camera quality, terrible app support (understandable tbh, new device to plan for), and *displays breaking themselves right away* is just. Wow.

like, every other manufacturer who's been doing this for years - even just a couple of years - have figured out how to NOT break the display like this. Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, Google, etc. have *all figured this out*. Is the tech perfect? No! The hinge will always Be There.

ough. of course. random 2am "btw we rejected you" email. love that. can't even have it during somewhat normal business hours in the area.

let me clarify

Skull Issue@amagire.bsky.social

the difference between "republicans win" and "democrats win by explicitly rejecting trans rights and abandoning immigrants" is that there is no difference. over a longer time period than the next five minutes, these things are the same.

ughhh just applied for a role with a company and part of the process was them trying to get me to determine if they could get a tax credit by hiring me. which just feels so incredibly gross. like, hire me because i'd actually fit the need, not because i'm the person who saves you on taxes.

:b does anyone have any spots on their nintendo switch online family plan for a synth? really want to play games online again and play splatoon 3 once more but i haven't been able to afford a membership for ages...

can we stop having random major vulnerabilities and avoidable security flaws this week im tired of constantly updating my shit.

But everyone keeps telling me that Game Key Cards are "the same thing as physical" so i should stop complaining about them. Thank you, shovelware producers, for showing us the worst-case scenario. 🫡

A new Rudolph game on Switch 2 is proving problematic because it hasn't been uploaded to the eShop, rendering its game-key card useless.

my partner genuinely suggested the other day that if I stream Fallout 4 they'd join me in a discord call and just exist and knit and commentate on the bullshit I'm doing because a. I've never played Fallout 4 before and 2. they have done a number of playthroughs. perchance... one day... maybe soon.

now to ALSO monitor all of my shit because some of it may or may not use PHP and i don't remember what but its time to watch for that patch!

ok can someone PLEASE help me decipher this. They're claiming it supports the Intel Arc B390 iGPU with the highest end CPU which techically requires ~7400MTz LPDRR5 memory, but this thing uses DDR5 SODIMMs at 7200MTs which I cannot find ANY evidence of existing. www.ibase-usa.com/en/product/c...

If it used LPDDR5 or LPCAMM2 modules I'd get it, but it just doesn't! They exclusively use SODIMMs! What the FUCK is going on here??? How are they claiming a rated 7200MTs SODIMM sockets when those don't even exist??? *WHAT*

ASRock claims the same thing with their similar board! Same CPU, same chipset, similar everything! Same SODIMM sockets! Is there some secret manufacturer and seller of 7200MHz DDR5 SODIMMs that I don't know of and can't find any evidence of existing???

Every other CPU offered on this board doesn't offer Arc B390 support in the first place so it's REALLY just the high-end Intel Core Ultra X7 358H that confuses me. How are they able to claim suitable Arc B390 support with 7200MTs modules that I can't find ANYONE ever selling ANYTHING like that?
