How would anyone know if they actually complied?

Jenny Cohn@jennycohn.bsky.social

“Tech giant Meta said on Tuesday it has complied with an order of Brazil's electoral court for it to give equal treatment in its platforms to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and….Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of the Oct. 25 runoff for the nation's top job.” (IT TOOK A COURT ORDER.) 10/20/26 … 1/

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I wonder how many fascist fanboys lost their shirts betting on Bolsonaro in the “prediction markets.”

Jenny Cohn@jennycohn.bsky.social

How pathetic. This pro-Bolsonaro Brazilian official relied on the Thiel-backed prediction market (Polymarket) to suggest that Flavio Bolsonaro had won his debate against President Lulu (who just defeated Bolsonaro in the election.) Because Polymarjet is “real” info. 🙄 1/ x.com/delegadorama...

"It's the turnout, stupid."

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.

Has he called Todd Blanche yet?

Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede after losing Brazil's presidential runoff to Lula. "It is impossible to acknowledge the election results. We will ask for the elections to be annulled."

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Bad news: Fender Musical Instruments is laying off over 500 employees at its American factory. The company has struggled in the wake of the pandemic and a Trump trade war that's rattled inflation and supply chains.

The only thing most “10x programmers“ do is that they just ship the rough sketch.

doctober@docseuss.bsky.social

a programming teacher of mine once said the reason adults are harder to teach than kids is because adults want it to be perfect, the way they've seen it before, in their heads, and kids don't really know or care, they just wanna try you learn by doing, a lot of adults are afraid of doing

Starlink needs to be nationalized for national security. Musk needs to be arrested. Trump will do neither, because he doesn't care about national security unless it comes with a Hitlerian arch.

News to Remember@moments2remember.link

We are seeing RECORD Black turnout across the south. The racist republicans in congress and our courts have made a terrible mistake, and Black voters will lead the charge to vote them out and hold them accountable!

No, because you're taxing the billionaires' OWNERSHIP of the company. Tax him and he has to sell some of his stake to pay what he owes. NOTHING about the company's financials change AT ALL. They pay no more in taxes, their stock price does not change, nothing. These people think we're idiots.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.
