I just realized how much I like my microwaves design (Gorenje MO20E1W - still on the shelves): - has two dials, one for timing, one for power level - doesn't even have a display - doesn't beep (more importantly, doesn't keep beeping), only has a mechanical ringer Perfection! Original->

A major challenge of alternative #search engines seems to be that they have to be *reliable* in the sense that they should work, always. Web search is an essential tool and if it's not available or quality noticeably degrades (hard to monitor!), that's a major headache for 1/3

users. One can argue that you can temporarily go to a different engine, but you have a preferred engine for good reasons (e.g. customizations, UI, etc.). When you have a car you like and used to you probably will struggle even with a very good replacement you got while yours 2/3

Mistakes happen but this press release is a really good indicator that you should never buy anything from #eMudhra . They are basically saying that people shouldn't throw a tantrum about the giant oil spill they just created because oil is not that important in their bottom line. 1/2

So we can reasonably expect these "take $platform down to avoid pwn" situations to occur ~periodically. We also have caching proxies and CDNs everywhere, mostly based on OSS implementations. Do we have an out-of-the box solution for "serve everything from cache until I say 1/2

otherwise" mode with e.g. #nginx or #caddy? Like you would still serve most of your forum/wiki/blog/... statically, without exposing any attack surface of your webapp engine. 2/2 Original->

Why does the @mozilla homepage has a large "*Try* Firefox" button? This implies that a) you will possibly not like it b) your installation will "expire" in some way like in case of demoware (I should've been a marketer, but went for higher education) Original->
