For the first time in what I think is 15 years, I won't be taking part in #altc, happening this year in Cardiff. However, I will at least be appearing as part of the radio station, with a new show for this year, as well as a repeat of last year's show. Tune in at www.thethursdaynightshow.com

Cadbury Castle circuit - 14th October 2026. A pleasant perambulation. In his work of 1542, John Leland identifies Cadbury Castle as being the "real" Camelot. Honest, guv!

Ham Wall and Shapwick Heath - 8.5 miles and 30 birds including 3 new ones for 2026, which takes the total to 94. Oiseau du jour is Kingfisher.

Limington, Yeovil Marsh and Draycott - a sunny Somerset stroll with a few stray clouds and one incredibly overgrown bit. Of all the days to leave the tools of justice at home. 7.5 miles

Dear Glastonbury Aldi. You are the wrong way round. In my 3 local Aldis we enter on the left and finish on the right. I suppose it was designed by a wizard or something. Maybe there’s a secret cave underneath it.

Wainwrights 210, 211 & 212 - Middle Fell, Seatallan & Buckbarrow. The absolute worst conditions I have ever walked in. 6.5 miles, 5 hours 40 minutes, 2,900 feet of up and down.

Hooray, our World Cup 2026 Wall Chart is FINISHED 🥳 It's our biggest wall chart ever, an A1-sized shambles sullied by SIXTY wonky doodles. Dunno if competitions fly on Bluesky, but if you share this we'll send a couple of freebies out to some (un)lucky RTers x 🛒 noscoredraws.com/products/wor...

Wainwrights 208 & 209 - Haycock & Caw Fell. A 10 mile epic, 3,200 feet of up and down. Perfectly pleasant if it’s not raining for the whole first hour, just a long way to go! And very wet underfoot!

Wainwright 207 - Kirk Fell. Some Wainwrights are lovely. Some are just nasty. This falls into the latter category. Never again. 7.5 miles, 2,400 feet of up and down.

Wainwright 206 - Pillar (not the one from Eldorado). 8.75 miles, 3,020 feet of up and down. The 8th highest mountain in England. A sunny and cloudy day in the fells.

With #OER26 early‑bird registration closing on 29 May, ALT is encouraging colleagues to secure their place at OER26 before discounted rates end. This year’s conference takes place on 22–23 June 2026 in Milton Keynes. buff.ly/1hrEwHB #altc #OER #EdTech #OpenEducation #DigitalLearning

Afternoon bird walk. 19 birds including Tree Pipit, House Martin, Tree Creeper and 2 Grey Herons fighting with Mallards. Added bonus of 2 red squirrels too!

A very nice 7.5mi walk along Stanage Edge, down to Bamford and back up again. Added 9 new birds to the 2026 list: chiffchaff, reed bunting, wheatear, skylark, meadow pipit, curlew, blackcap, mistle thrush and siskin.

State of the art PC gaming in 1993, now available in your web browser. Wonder if anyone using NCSA Mosaic in 1993 ever thought it would be able to do this…

DOOM fully rendered in CSS. Every surface is a <div> that has a background image, with a clipping path with 3D transforms applied. Of course CSS does not have a movable camera, so we rotate and translate the scene around the user.

My show is repeated this Friday at 13:00 GMT. I'm pretty certain that you won't hear any of the songs on my show on anyone else's show...

Derwent Water wander - 2nd January 2026. A chilly winter wander down to Calf Close bay and back. 22 birds spotted to start the year list off well. 5.8 miles.

Wainwright 199 - Mungrisdale Common. He commented that it "has no more pretension to elegance than a pudding that has been sat on" and that “precious holiday hours should not be wasted here”. 5.7 miles, 1420 feet of up and down.

Spotted this misleading bench today. I was sceptical. The use of the word “near” makes it technically correct, but Boudicca is said to have died on a different bit of Watling Street to where this bench is placed, about 60 miles south east of this location… And it was most likely AD60 or 61…
