Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Neptune has the strongest winds in the solar system, reaching speeds up to 2,100 km/h (1,200+ mph), which break the sound barrier. #scifi #astronomy

Sneak peak of the Atlas Rush How-to-Play video! Full video coming soon! Was it necessary to #render this in #Blender when we have physical prototypes? No. Was it unnecessarily complicated? Yes. Was it fun? Also yes. #gamedev #indiegames #boardgames #indiedev #3dart #scifigames

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Jupiter's moon Callisto, in addition to being the most cratered object in the solar system, is also the only Galilean moon outside Jupiter's deadly radiation belt, making it a prime target for colonization. #scifi #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Ever feel like the days drag on but the years go by quickly? You might be on Mercury. There, the time from sunrise to sunrise takes ~176 Earth days, but a year is half that, ~88 Earth days. Credit Digital Astronaut #space #astronomy

Dystopian fiction hits different when real life often feels like a Black Mirror episode. For that reason, in Atlas Rush, we wrote Terra (Earth) as a post-scarcity society, at the dawn of the warp age. We love optimistic #futurism. We wanted to share it in our little sci-fi #space #boardgame. #scifi

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Where did you come from, Phobos? Astronomers debate whether Mars' larger moon is a captured asteroid, or a remnant of a Martian impact. JAXA just launched its MMX mission today to find out. Img credit #JAXA #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Just in time for spooky season, astronomers have found the first green star, and it's a zombie. WD J1330+6435 is a dead white dwarf, still consuming the debris of its planetary system. Img credit Mark Garlick #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Ever feel like you're spinning in circles? Well, you are, just not as fast as Haumea. This dwarf planet spins so fast at 1,863km/h (1,158mph) that its rotation deformed its surface into an egg shape. #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: A world with red snow and a black moon? The dwarf planet Makemake is covered in frozen methane and ethane snow, tinted red by repeated UV exposure. Its carbon-rich moon is extremely dark, 1300x fainer than its parent. #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: You are here. Feel small yet? Our galaxy is one of a 100,000 galaxies within the #Laniakea Supercluster. Laniakea, meaning "immense heaven", spans 250,000ly and holds between 100bn to 400bn stars. Credit #DeepSky #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: The heaviest dwarf planet, Eris, aptly named after the goddess of discord, is more massive than Pluto. Its 2005 discovery caused chaos among astronomers, and ultimately forced Pluto's demotion. Credit #Hubble #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Mars' 2 moons, Phobos & Deimos are so tiny that they can't reach hydrostatic equilibrium (become round). Phobos, the larger one, is only 0.6% the size of our moon. Their shape is more like a potato than a moon. Img credit #NASA #space

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: If you think of Earth as being the most water-rich world in the solar system, you'd be wrong. Titan's subsurface oceans, 100-250km (60-150mi) beneath its crust, hold a staggering 11.4x the amount of water on Earth. #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Neptune's moon Triton is so cold at -235°C (-391°F) that it has volcanic geysers of liquid nitrogen. The geysers, heated by tidal forces and radioactive decay, shoot up over 8km (5mi). Img Credit Science Photo Library #space #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: On Mars' Arcadia Planitia, water ice is buried very shallowly, as little as 2.5cm - 30cm (about 1" - 1') beneath the surface. This vast 10⁴km³ reservoir may support the first human settlements on Mars. Img Credit #ESA #scifi #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Polyphemus confirmed? Maybe. In #Avatar, Pandora's blue gas giant host orbits Alpha Centauri A, only 4ly away from Earth. Observations in 2024 show a strikingly similar Saturn-sized world orbiting Alpha Centauri A... #scifi #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Saturn has a huge secondary ring that is over 100x the size of its iconic ring. The Phoebe Ring is made up of icy particles shed by its moon Phoebe, extending 10.1 million miles from the planet. Img credit #NASA #scifi #astronomy

Posting cool #space #facts until the Atlas Rush #Kickstarter: Pluto's moon Charon is so comparatively big, the pair orbit each other in a "double-dwarf system". Charon, which lovingly began orbit with a "kiss", is half the size of Pluto and over 10% of its mass. Img credit Mark Garlick #scifi
