Excellent free article from NYTimes. Something I take out of it: Trump’s hyper-partisanship weakens U.S. government’s ability to respond. U.S. government doesn’t die or leave office and never forgets, at least when not corrupted by hyper-partisanship. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/u...

nytimes.comA New Level of Threat and Fear Risks Pushing the U.S. and Iran Back to Full WarWith new intelligence and the possibility of all sides seeking pretexts for action, the war in Iran is entering a dangerous phase ahead of elections in the United States and Israel.

HOW NICE FOR PETE: Seven months into the pointless Iran war that’s driving up fuel prices and draining our wallets and Trump’s Secretary of War Pete Hegseth still finds time to take a taxpayer-funded trip to Knoxville to watch the UT-Alabama game! And of course he’s with Marsha 🙄

Katie Zacharia could have continued a successful career on NewsMax peddling scurrilous pro-Trump conspiracy theories and misrepresenting herself as an attorney or she could have continued her well paid, low work job as a “communications adviser” for Trump Media & Technology Group. /2.

But no, Katie had to fly as a high as she could in Trump Land for her own self-aggrandizement and future profits. She’s made an international fool of herself, and now she has to pay the price, although I’m guessing there’s still a role for her somewhere in the far-right American media ecosystem.

Possibly the most British news article ever: a “well known individual“ has sued the Guardian and ITN to prevent them for publishing details of serious allegations against said individual. He claims he may hurt himself if the story is published, citing the European convention on human rights /1

The article says Saudi Arabia recently executed a man for non-lethal ”terrorist offenses” he committed at age 12. The Saudi government decided it was OK to kill him because the man was age 27 at the time of the execution.

Katie Zacharia is out after only five days as Press Secretary. As a friend has pointed out, this constitutes only 0.46 Scaramuccis in the position. At least Katie has her successful legal career to fall back on.

Poor Donold — he’s now down one fake Ivanka. At least he still has Natalie, and she’ll likely never leave him no matter what Melania thinks.

Bend elementary school shooting was 1 of very rare circumstances where it appears a good guy with a gun stopped bad guy with a gun, but not before 5-year-old, 8-year-old and 11-year old children and a school teacher were murdered and a 7-year-old and 2nd school teacher were critically wounded /1

It would make more sense to keep guns out of hands of unstable people in the 1st place. But thoughts and prayers … I hope shooter’s parents are prosecuted and sued.

Parents reportedly bought 16-year-old shooter a Mossberg Maverick 88 pump action shotgun he used to commit the massacre.

Angelina Jolie just sold her LA estate for $24.75M, only $250,000 more than she paid for it in June 2017. Taking into account commissions and inflation, she probably lost $9M on the investment in today’s $$, not counting any reasonable profit from safe investments of the purchase price in June 2017.

Even so, she won’t go to bed hungry anytime soon. She’s apparently planning to leave the U.S. due the current political climate. I’m guessing she lives well in the south of France going forward.

Kinda wild that there have been wild protests going on in Albania for months set off by a corrupt Kushner luxury resort project and there has been barely coverage of it here 🇺🇸 and Trump never gets asked about it.

Odds are looking good the Democrats will win both Houses of Congress in midterms, but I expect Trump and Mike Johnson may try to do what Maduro did after the 2015 legislative elections in Venezuela: manufacture phony claims of fraud in close races to try to prevent Democratic majorities /1

From being seated in the hope that a majority of the stacked SCOTUS will vote for the Republican losers and prevent a Democratic majority from being seated. However, I’m less certain that the narrow Republican majority in Senate would all vote in lock step for outright fraud. /2

The six Republican senators who just signed a letter to Trump opposing the Russia diesel deal are a pretty good place to start. The Democrats don’t need all six to vote against election fraud for Democratic senators to be seated.

More oil is passing out of the Persian Gulf, but the cost of shipping that oil is at all-time high, because of the time and number of tankers needed to move the oil through the Strait of Hormuz and transfer it to larger tankers. oilprice.com/Energy/Energ...
