Watch with wonder as I mainly post about movies, giant Japanese superheroes, and art/commission stuff!

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that this show, which is in America for the first episode but is obviously filmed in Japan, has questionable geography.

One of the most fascinating things about Kamen Rider Super-1 is the lead actor. He's literally been missing for almost a decade after stealing money from fans and evading legal action. Even the wiki classifies him as a fugitive. Wild stuff.

About 5 years ago, I considered all the Showa-era Kamen Rider shows to be sort of unattainable shows that I desperately wanted to see. It's incredible to see I now finally own them all on disc. (Except for the original series, but I've watched that show a lot anyways.)

The Lupin the 3rd Part 2 entire collection is more of a treasure than I think I realized at first. That's 155 episodes, 3720 hours. If I left it on nonstop it would take a whole 2.5 days to get through it all. That is a heck of a lot of Lupin.

I was bummed at first that my local IMAX was not playing Godzilla Minus Zero so I booked tickets for next Thursday elsewhere. But then I learned they *are* playing it in IMAX on Godzilla Day, two days earlier. So yeah, I'm definitely taking time off for that. πŸŽ‰πŸ’ͺ

I've brought it up too many times because it's like one of my favorite experiences I've had in recent years, but Minus One holds a special place in my heart just because I got to see it in Japan, about a week or two before it came out in the US.

And it was also a surreal and awesome experience for the Godzilla exhibit to come alive and do its performance right as we left the theater.

I realized we're nearly 100 days away from the Japan trip and that really is starting to put a fire under my butt to get the itinerary ironed out ASAP. I put too much focus on the first few days and need to wrap it up!!

Journalists are out there asking the *really* important questions, finally!!

Vulture@vulture.com

β€˜Wicker’ stars Alexander SkarsgΓ₯rd as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick. But what about splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? We asked a gynecologist: vulture.visitlink.me/DNQwX5

I remember seeing that this was in theaters when I was in Tokyo back in 2023 and sadly didn't see it. It took far too long for this to be available but I'm glad it *finally* became available to watch.

PSA: Takeshi Kitano’s KUBI just popped up on Netflix. Apart from a handful of festival play dates, this seems to be the movie’s first US release since its 2023 debut.

Finally finished this one and it's a definite recommend for fans of Showa toku. Solid monster-of-the-week nonsense and cool looking costumes. I should revisit it some time soon, I couldn't always pay full attention and I was so busy that it took me so long to get through it all. Still totally great.

Heck yeah, it's toku disc delivery day, baby. πŸ’ͺ I see lots of fun and imaginative costumes and monsters on the back of the case, so I'm excited to jump in.

My favorite thing about zombie lore is that the undead famously always moan "Zooooommmbbbiiiiieeee" like they're a PokΓ©mon.

I've sprinted through two horror franchise re-watches during this spooky season and we're only 2/3rds of the way into the month, which might be a rarity. The spookies must flow.

While Neek and I were marathoning all the Chucky movies this week, I was reminded that we own a movie accurate Good Guy doll, so I briefly busted him out of storage to see how he's doing. (I promptly returned him to his box because I don't need him out and about while I'm sleeping) πŸ”ͺ

It's a new 4k Blu-ray day. Yeah I'm still a fan of this one, it's just a huge bummer that it's a fairly bare bones release.

A weird and not necessarily bad problem I'm having at the moment is that I haven't ironed out *anything* for my Japan trip once the Namahage festival is done (which is the start of the trip). I actually love the feeling of endless possibilities but it also makes me feel indecisive.

I felt like I was at the movie theater for half the weekend but if you know me then you'll know that I'm kind of okay with that.

No spoilers about anything but I'd like to point out that the new Street Fighter movie does a good job at appropriately depicting Blanka as stinky.

I wanted to create an account on Japanese Yahoo Answers so I could potentially get some advice from locals on attending the Namahage Sedo Festival and unfortunately it requires a Japanese phone number for 2-factor authentication. Oh well. 😞

It's an interesting spooky season because there are two prestige TV shows based on existing horror properties right now. I literally jumped from Carrie right into that Crystal Lake prequel. We're eating good in franchise town, I suppose. πŸ”ͺ

I've been very slow on finishing Skyrider, because I've been so busy. More than half-way through it and it's a totally solid show with a lot of fun moments like this, so it's a thumbs-up in my book. πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

I'm slowly realizing the best way to prepare will be to consult with people that know more than I do. So it occurred to me to go see what actual Japanese citizens have to say. Going to Japanese sites is always a fascinating step back in time because they don't often update some bigger sites.

Found a nice vlog of a guy going to the last Namahage Sedo Festival, which is good for me in my research for going next year. The only problem is that it's making me nervous about how unprepared I am for it. Many tourist spots in Japan have English translations. This is not one of those places.

I also stumbled upon a reddit thread where a guy who apparently has done Namahage performances for the festival in the past was giving advice to someone about the festival, which at this point is maybe the absolute best information I could've ever hoped to find. πŸ’–

Another spo00oky #ThrowBuThursday! Don't fall asleep or a mischievous stabby-gloved Nightmare-Bu will invite you to a pizza party where the meatballs will probably be your friends. This is a convention badge made in 2018 by the always dreamy @neekko.art. πŸ₯°πŸ•

And that's fine, ultimately. Blessed to live in a time with translation apps. But I don't even have a ticket and transportation worked out yet and so my attendance next year isn't locked in. Coordinating that stuff and thinking about what-ifs is what's ready stressing me out. 😭

Hi #portfolioday! I am an aspiring comic artist. Finalist for 2000AD and Negative Space talent searches. Always looking for new projects! βœ‰οΈ: yayato077@gmail.com

I'm about *three years* too late but I'm finally checking this out (only 5 episodes??) and it's pretty great! Although it seems like it follows the story from the anime so closely, so a lot of the time I feel like I almost want to pop on the anime instead?

I've never had any particular interest in exploring those Netflix live-action adaptations of popular anime. But then someone reminds me that there's an oni fight in Yu Yu Hakusho and I'm like dammit, I might have to watch this. 😭

Revisiting a stone cold classic today. Still grappling with the fact that it's now 20 years old. 😩 This is my third time in theaters, I saw it twice back in '06. Still my favorite Del Toro. πŸ’ͺ
