No one tells you that your whole family is introverted growing up. In retrospect it should have become clear when I chose to come out of the closet... by sending my parents an email. They didn't call me or discuss it in person when I came out. They replied to the email.

Does anyone else do this with their chopstick wrapper? I donโ€™t think I came up with it but Iโ€™m told itโ€™s weird.

I do not want to shake hands with whoever it was at the shop that put my oil filter in "hand tight". Had to pull out the breaker bar for that thing. I try to do all my own maintenance, but last time I didn't have time. They apparently swapped out a screw on my belly plate for a coarse thread too.

I started getting useful data out of my LiDAR. Did a walkthrough of the venue for MAGFest and it's handling a really challenging space pretty well. Currently implementing "splat and replace" to clean up repeated objects as well. Unfortunately the cameras were clipping everywhere by the windows.

Iโ€™m looking at getting a bunch of cursed artifact comics done. I donโ€™t think theyโ€™ll all be with kobolds but they work so well for this. Currently have two more in the pipeline. I need to start a spreadsheet to track commissions.

Leaking user data should be an existential threat to a company. It shouldn't just be public embarrassment or a fine, they should just have all assets seized and the shareholders go home empty handed. Security isn't easy, but it's not *that* hard.

So, did you know that Fall happens before Winter, and we're heading into Fall? In any event, check out nxthreads.com for info on getting your own suit!

We're heading into winter but that just means it's almost hot tub season! I have a number of new patterns on hand, like this striking blue camo here. I can also produce custom patterns like the gremlin on the right! Check me out at nxthreads.com and get your own pair!

I think a core experience of running a home lab is scrambling to set up a model network before the ISP tech arrives. I don't want to explain my actual network to them so I just set up the bare minimum on a shelf next to the ONU to demo the issue.

I had a really good candidate interview with me today. After so many LLM assisted candidates I was starting to think I was having trouble telling them apart from real people. Nope. It's a stark difference between someone who actually knows stuff and someone reading from an AI.

Ugh, bsky is making me verify my age. Hopefully Epic Games (aka Child Web Services) can follow a privacy policy.

If you're going to use an LLM to answer for you during a job interview, please don't. All of the available models are really obvious and I'm bad enough at the social dynamics of interviews when I don't have to accuse you of fraud.

I'm writing my own video mixer for use at conventions. It embeds Servo to render each view, but I added zero-copy video inputs from decklink and SRT. (The top has 16 1080p60 video sources and below I currently have two outputs, but it can comfortably handle 8 on this hardware)

I'm currently testing on an Intel A580 which is a beast when it comes to video encode/decode, and I'm barely touching it for compositing. The bottleneck right now is the CSS thread in Servo.

It ties into NodeCG for control, and uses MediaSoup to ship previews to dashboard clients. I implemented an audio mixer in rust, and use GPU acceleration for both video encode/decode and compositing. Hopefully this year we can skip the ATEM rental!

Here's what's inside, in case you're wondering. The fan is what happens when you don't think about cooling until the night before you need it working.

I finished building out my LiDAR sensor. It uses a PANDAR128 sensor along with a raspberry pi 5, IMU, dual IMX519 cameras, and a ZED-F9P GPS module. Unfortunately it only has a 1TB NVMe since that's all I had and storage is $$$ right now... It fills that in 30 minutes XD

I wrote my own SLAM to handle all the LiDAR data. It works! I scanned my house. Look at that beautiful loop closure~

Preview of a project that's coming up. I got a LIDAR! This thing has 128 lasers and spits out something like 5M points per second. Gonna scan so many buildings with this thing.

Welp, canceled my Discord nitro and boosts. Sucks that I don't get stickers there anymore, but them demanding my ID or a face scan is the last straw.

If they make it a hard requirement I'm just going to stop using Discord. Honestly IRC still works fine, and streaming games to friends over webrtc works pretty well these days. I don't know why chat apps think they have moats.

Really happy with how my digital signage turned out at MAGFest this year. Other than the render box trying to upgrade to windows 11โ€ฆ

โ€ฆdid anyone check up on the โ€œdonโ€™t tread on meโ€ flag guy from outside MFF? Does he know itโ€™s over? I assume he goes home after, but Iโ€™ve never checked.

MFF was amazing this year. I got to suit more than I ever have before and meet some really cool people! I had a bit of a rocky start at MFF but it grows on me every year.
