US resumes intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Zelensky says #Ukraine

uawire.orgUS resumes intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Zelensky saysUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States has resumed sharing intelligence with Kyiv after a period in which the US blocked this exchange, Bloomberg reported . Earlier, Ukraine had not received warnings from its American partners for several days about Russian ballistic missile launches. Zelensky did not specify how long the disruption lasted or whether the intelligence sharing has now been fully restored. He also expressed hope for talks with US officials next week. Back on October 17, Zelensky said Washington had indicated it was open to such a meeting. On October 14, speaking to NPR, Zelensky confirmed that the administration of Donald Trump had threatened to end intelligence cooperation if Ukraine continued to strike Russian oil refineries. He said this warning was delivered by American representatives to Ukrainian military officials rather than to him personally. On October 12 and 13, Ukraine received no advance warnings of Russian ballistic missile launches, and air raid alerts in Ukrainian cities were only triggered after the first explosions occurred. Trump has denied cutting off intelligence sharing, saying the United States continues to support Ukraine. Military analyst David Sharp previously explained that US satellites are capable of detecting ballistic missile launches almost immediately after engines are activated. According to him, Ukraine does not have an alternative source of such early warnings, as the capabilities of other countries and ground-based radar systems are limited. Amid tensions with Washington, Zelensky announced on October 15 that Ukraine would resume strikes on Russian oil refineries following a three-day pause at the request of the United States. The president said Russia continued to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite Trump’s declaration of an “energy ceasefire” on October 11. On October 18, Zelensky reported that in the week following the announcement of the “energy ceasefire,” Russia had attacked Ukrainian energy and oil and gas facilities 76 times. Just last night, strikes hit substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa regions. Zelensky said tens of thousands of families remain without electricity. Over the course of the week, the Ukrainian president claimed, Russian forces launched nearly 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles.
