Despite last night’s disappointing choke, the #Habs honestly don’t seem to be missing Mike Matheson all that much. And Kapanen looks more like himself, too. Slafkovský as well. Some positives out of a bad night all the same.

Neither Dobeš nor Xhekaj should play this week after last night’s collapse. They just can’t ignore dumb penalties any longer. That the team cannot overcome indiscipline, is really concerning - it’s basic hockey & literally the easiest improvement the team can make. Coach has to respond.

If this guy had a dynasty league team, he’d keep stockpiling prospects, and as they hit, keep trading them for ever-younger prospects. Never, ever in contention. Literally the worst at his job for decades

Nazis used ideas of "race" to name some people as unfit for life in the "German nation" After WWII anti-racists worked hard to delegitimize the idea of "race." Now, we must delegitimize the idea of "nation" & the division between "citizens" & "migrants" To not do so is to accept today's terrors.

This Day in Labor History: October 16, 1859. John Brown and a group of followers invade the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (today WV) to start a war and end slavery. Let's talk about this key moment in American labor history!

Alright, lots of metalheads talking out their asses about politics recently so Dr. Death Metal is going into professor mode. “Politics” isn’t just about elections, government, and political parties. “Politics” is about power. Listen up: 1/X

A better time, primitive & full of possibility. The Information Superhighway was as an uncarved block, innovation was very much wu wei as we just waded in like children playing

I miss Claude “I fix things” Julien. Actual hockey tactics might be a thing. We’re seeing the limits of a coach who has little to say at this point beyond “play the game in front of you” while he pulls goalies too early #GoHabsGo

Seeing the coach say this makes me unhopeful as a fan. What about their wobbly process & consistently average results? That’s demoralizing af to read as a fan. He’s not there to be a dad, his job is “win games” and he’s contributing to the unforced errors on his own.

#Habs MSL: "I feel like after a game like tonight my biggest concern is the morale of the boys staying in a good place emotionally. We played a good game; life's not fair, keep going. Tomorrow the sun will shine hopefully and we'll go back to work. It's life; just get up and go."

If I’m Danny Brière, I’m firing Tocchet immediately, finding an AHL or players’ coach to create a safe but disciplined culture, and getting back to properly rebuilding. Last year was BS & they should’ve been tanking. The failed OS sealed their fate for this year & he knows all this.

I would be shocked if Fowler didn’t get the start Thursday for the #Habs and just, surprise, the door for him suddenly popped open. That said, hope Sammy is okay. He’s got more games in him & I think he’ll be called upon this year too.

RIP to the first software engineer, and one of the very best.

bryan newbold@bnewbold.net

ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton. she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back. news.mit.edu/2026/margare...

This is part of what I can’t stomach from this coach. His method has proven limitations & he clearly doesn’t see that. No change since last year’s approach, no lessons learned. Clock’s ticking for MSL, but will he realize it too late? ⏰

#Habs Martin St-Louis on correcting mistakes: "I feel like this group is honest and I feel like our honesty helps us repair quick... they're well aware, it's not me pointing it out to them... and now it's relying on our maturity to repair it quick"

Appreciate the #GoHabsGo making it easier to ignore them this season. Lots of other interesting hockey, we can check with the CH again in January to see if they’ve made any progress since October of 2025. Coaching is still suspect 🥸 Watching the ladies on HNIC this season instead, very excited!

this has been pretty eye opening. one game, still early, all that noise. but it feels like the canadiens aren’t a 2c away from being at the canes’ level. they are a fundamental shift in the way they approach their game away from being peers with carolina. last year wasn’t close. this isn’t close.

I’m back in the Cool Zone this week talking unions! Come for the labor news, stay for my terrible accent

Cool Zone Media@coolzonemedia.bsky.social

New It Could Happen Here In this episode, labor reporter @kimkelly.bsky.social breaks down September's biggest and baddest labor stories, from an historic union election for caregivers to union-busting at AutoZone. linktr.ee/ICHHpod

Goalies are the best

/r/Habs@habsonreddit.bsky.social

Reporter: “Can you talk about Alex Carrier, what he’s bringing to this team?” Jakub Dobes: “I love my D-corps. I love every single one of them. They’re amazing, every single one of them…I don’t wanna bring up just one guy. Everybody played really well today.”

So 1F & 1D still too many by the looks of it?

#Habs the Canadiens have assigned 10 players to the Laval Rocket: Owen Beck, Dillan Bentley, Laurent Dauphin, Jared Davidson, Jacob Fowler, Filip Mešár, Luke Mittelstadt, Owen Protz, David Reinbacher and Tyler Thorpe. 26 players remain at Canadiens training camp. #GoHabsGo #NHL #Hockey

If you’re under 40, let me assure you this was the last motherfucker you wanted to see coming up in the 9th inning for the other team.

When I teach linear I like to point out that the mathematical use comes via gardening. Womb -> a growing place -> a garden plot with lines of string to make a grid to put a regular array of seeds -> an array of numbers each with its designated spot.
