We were promised REPEATEDLY that age-verification law was narrow, and would ONLY apply to porn. But— as we warned —it was always a ruse. Since conservatives got their ruling in FSC v Paxton, they’ve pushed to age-gate anything and everything. It’s not going to stop with social media or chatbots.

As bills on social media, algorithms, and AI move through legislatures, it's worth remembering how past moral panics over new media left behind broad laws that outlasted them https://c4osl.org/moral-panic-to-permanent-law-the-pattern-of-fear-censorship-in-media/

Slapping a ban on complex topics doesn't address the root causes of online harm; just sweeps them out of sight. Genuine digital safety requires the hard work of building consent culture and social support, not lazy censorship. 2 more days - https://c4osl.org/drawing-the-line-aprigf/
