I finally have a website that actually reflects everything I do. Imagine a website about Mitch Buchannon that focuses on his lifeguarding but completely ignores his nightly paranormal detective work! THAT WOULD BE INSANE. Anyway. cadumais.com. It has books, editing, speaking, and fewer ghosts.

cadumais.comPennyU | A monthly English book clubPennyU is a monthly English book club in Wrocław, hosted by writer Christian A. Dumais.

I'm organizing a monthly English book club in #Wroclaw starting in January 2027. It'll take place at Drukarnia, a cool typographic print shop in Nadodrze. More info and sign-up 👉 cadumais.com/pennyu/ The first book will be announced by email in November. 📚 Thanks, everyone!

I lost my buddy Taco yesterday. I was lucky enough to have him in my life since we picked him up at the shelter 6 years ago. He was the best dog I've ever had; the truest of good boys. Our house feels emptier without him.

I forgot the alt text for the picture: A close-up of a black lab, around 12-13 years old, white in his hair, laying outside on an autumn day, just living the life.

I stand behind this about CARRIE. Instead of quibbling over how it deviates from the book, I think we'd be better off figuring out who are going to replace the characters we already know from THE DARK TOWER. Will Carrie be waiting at Algul Siento? Will she be replacing Brautigan? Earnshaw?

Christian A. Dumais@cadumais.com

I think it’s something else. I think this is a back door to his Dark Tower, and he’s collecting all the King IP he can in the next two seasons to set up the story.

I'm still stunned that I managed to get this first edition of CREEPSHOW signed by Stephen King, George Romero, Ted Danson, Leslie Nielson, Hal Holbrook, Tom Savini, and Adrienne Barbeau.

It's my first signed King book. And while it wasn't the one I imagined, I couldn't pass up all those other signatures. My only regret is that I couldn't make it to Warsaw this week to have it signed by Joe Hill.

Testing this app on my tentative revised covers for my main series. Dashing, don't you think?

Christian A. Dumais@cadumais.com

Writers! I've been working with my buddy Mark to create a fun, accessible book mockup tool that does LOTS more than what you'll get on typical free sites. The real fun is in the small details. Seriously, check it out! I'd love any feedback or questions you have.

"One day there'll be flying cars." "Like Back to the Future?" "No, more like Bump 'n' Jump."

Visited my buddy who runs an old-school printing press here in the city and he gave me a new typewriter for my collection. Not sure how many more my office can handle...

In case any #writers missed this!

Anyway, I'm sorry for posting so much, but this tool has been a lot of fun to put together and I want to spread the word, especially for self-published writers who need a hand.

And, of course, any help spreading the word would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

You can adjust the book's thickness and size by dimensions and page count so it looks legit, and you can even open the book. Or add an editable bookmark. Want to make the book look used? Done. Want to make it hardcover? With a dustjacket? Done and done.

How about an editable slipcase?

For instance, you can put up to 6 of your books on a store bookshelf, choose the genre surrounding your books, change lighting and shadows, and edit staff picks or add prices. You can even make a video out of it.

Or make a 3D video of your book(s).

Just saw that @joe-hill.bsky.social is in Warsaw next week and it’s sold out! Still cool that he’s in Poland.

It's crazy that the wait time between TALISMAN and BLACK HOUSE was 17 years, which felt like an eternity at the time. Yet the 25-year wait between BLACK HOUSE and OTHER WORLDS THAN THESE seems like the blink of an eye.

Why do aesthetics and fashion all skew in the same direction with fascism? Is it emulation? A complete lack of imagination?

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

Just booked tickets for the 4K restoration of EVIL DEAD 2 in October. It's time my daughter experienced this classic on the big screen. It's going to be groovy. Can't wait.

I usually focus on the positive about the books I've read, but this line made me unreasonably angry when I read it last night.

In another book, I may have thought it was cute. But this book didn't earn it.

What I love about Reddit is that you can have serious conversations about controversial topics and get lots of upvotes, but when you make an offhand comment about how limited the concept of Michael Myers is as a villain, you get downvoted into oblivion.

Spent the last two evenings learning about Rob Delaney's son Henry and just basking in the joy and heartache of A HEART THAT WORKS. It's been a long time a book has reduced me to tears. I wish Delaney never had to write such a book, but I'm thankful he did.

This aired nine years ago yesterday. This line alone gave me chills, let alone what came next. Still the absolute best.

FANS (for the last 30 years): We want our superheroes stories gritty and realistic. People need to finally take the genre seriously! LANTERNS introduces racial politics into its story. FANS (today): NO! NOT LIKE THAT!

This is the first time since April of 2025 that I am working with the whole house to myself.

A lazy Sunday on the trampoline…

This is fascinating. The original was meant to recapture the lightning in the bottle Tony Scott and Tom Cruise achieved with TOP GUN by cutting and pasting the story with different vehicles. It should’ve worked, but the 90s looked at that rehashed 80s bombast and said no thank you.

First tease at ‘DAYS OF THUNDER 2’. • Starring Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway • In theaters on June 2, 2028

On the one hand, NASCAR is a bigger part of the culture than it was in 1990. So I can see why someone wrote the check for the sequel. But on the other hand, NASCAR is also synonymous with things like MAGA and Trump.

Is it possible for the sequel to be non-political in this day and age, or will they thread the needle the same way TG2 did? That is, make the politics so blurry and the antagonists so abstract and faceless that the audience can imagine their own enemy?

(I saw a sneak peek double feature of DAYS OF THUNDER and GHOST at the end of May 1990. I went because of was excited about DoT. When I left, I was only talking about GHOST. It took everyone at the screening by surprise.)

Now here we are with DAYS OF THUNDER 2, I suspect, because Cruise is hoping to recapture the magic he created with TOP GUN 2 (a movie that had no business being half as good as it was). There will be 6 years between them when DoT2 premieres in 2028.

The movie didn’t make half of what TOP GUN made. Some of it had to do with the simple fact that the culture shifted dramatically between 1986 and 1990. Most of it had to do with a little movie called GHOST coming out two weeks later and eating it for lunch.

Christian A. Dumais@cadumais.com

I appreciate the kind messages about not getting cast in the new X-MEN. There are lots of reasons why I wasn’t picked, but it mostly came down to not auditioning, not being an actor, and looking nothing like Rogue. Thanks again, everyone!
