That’s me! I’m the curator for #SpoonieAuthChat. Need physio this morning and time to recover! See you in a few days!

Spoonie Authors Network@spoonieauthnet.bsky.social

Hi, folks! I have physio today and will need the week to recover. #SpoonieAuthChat will return next week! Thanks for understanding!

I don’t normally comment about reviews, but a reader wrote that Hot Wings and Sauciness was the best book they’ve read in a while. And folks, I am a disabled and autistic author who also manages mental illness. My depression is not great these days. 1/2

That little sentence just gave me such a boost. Even the shortest positive review can do wonders for the morale! So if you like a book, don’t feel you need to write paragraphs and paragraphs! 😊 2/2

One thing about me, and I think it’s a blend of my autism and being GenX, but I am not impressed by people solely because they are famous or well-known. It has absolutely no impact on me. (Same in author communities.) I am typically impressed by a person’s character.

My latest release Haunting of a Witch is about a housebound chronically ill witch living in a haunted house I wanted to show the trapped feeling of a haunted house story but with an MC who physically can’t leave because of her illness instead. How do you escape when you can’t leave? #SpoonieAuthChat

We got stabbed for the good of the realm yesterday (flu and COVID vaccines). Sore arms today, needed naps. Then I watched the rest of The Diplomat Season 4. THE PAIN OF HAVING TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER SEASON IS WORSE THAN THE SHOTS!!!

For those who have read my award-winning disability-hopepunk adventure, Season One: Iris and the Crew Tear Through Space, you might be wondering where Season Two is! Here’s my post about it. (You can also subscribe to my posts too. It’s free!) wp.me/p5J2LK-4ZJ #Disability #SFF

I’m taking all of October off so I can gather my spoons for these cool activities in November! I’m one of the special guests at CollingWord, held at the Collingwood library. And when we come back home, I’ll be at the Ottawa small press book fair!

I’m typically drawn by imperfect heroes who let me in where I know what they’re thinking. I love big personalities, and I love humour. But I also love those moments of vulnerability when you don’t know what they’re gonna do next. And I also love heroes who overcome their fears. #SpoonieAuthChat

You know what? I would actually love if folks legitimately wanted to read Hot Wings and Sauciness for their book club. These fake emails are not only annoying, but they kind of hurt as well. Because it would be lovely if at least one was real.

Hey, authors of #WriteSky who manage disabilities and/or chronic conditions, wanna check out #SpoonieAuthChat? There’s one question to answer every Monday through Thursday, and a shameless promo Friday! It’s a great way to meet fellow authors too and build community!

I remember reading decades ago some advice: “Don’t make your character just one thing.” So I try to make sure even my heroes have vulnerabilities and flaws as well as strengths and awesomeness. I do not write perfect characters. Probably because I’m not a perfect author. #SpoonieAuthChat

Spoonie Authors Chat for writers who manage spoons, October 13, 2026: How do you make sure your characters are not one-dimensional or flat? (Please quote-post and add #SpoonieAuthChat!)

The plan is one POV. (I can’t believe I’m doing this again because I swore I was bad at first-person storytelling. I mean, I did it with Hot Wings and Sauciness, but let’s see if I can do it again for a YA!) #FirstDraftFall

Yeah! I’m thankful that I get to arrange words and meet people for my career. Also thankful for all the support you folks give me, for awesome disability community, for wonderful friends, for that guy who was at my wedding and still won’t leave my house, and for pumpkin pie! #SpoonieAuthChat

I came out later in life. I have a loving and supportive spouse, friends, and parents. I’m lucky. If you can’t come out, please don’t feel forced to. In your own time and when you are safe. For those of you who are not 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, be kind to those who come out. Kindness wins, imo.

On world mental health day, I would like to remind folks that depression doesn’t always look like sadness. I manage depression and anxiety, and I can still be really outgoing and funny. In fact, I’m known for the humour in my writing. But I still struggle, especially this time of year.

I often make the joke: “Please read my books, but please don’t tell me you’re reading them.” It’s not entirely true, of course. But I do gasp a little. Does anyone else feel anxious when someone tells you that they’re reading your book?

I will not answer this without first consulting with my attorney. (Joking of course. Because this panster is pantsy.)

Q4: What aspects of character development do you find most frustrating? #WeeknightWriters

Weeknight Writers@weeknightwriters.bsky.social

Q3: What aspects of character development do you enjoy most? What goes into making a character? #WeeknightWriters

A2: Oh! I just realized a thing! I hate planning. No wonder I can’t answer these questions! LOL!!! Lookit me, just making it all up as I go along! #WeeknightWriters

Q2: What aspects of character development do you consider most important to your story planning process? #WeeknightWriters

A1: This question presumes I’m cleverer than I actually am. 😆 I typically come up with an idea for a book, then this character barges their way into the page, and I’m helpless to do anything but write the incident report. #WeeknightWriters

Weeknight Writers@weeknightwriters.bsky.social

Q1: Do you typically create characters to match the story you want to tell or build your stories based on character(s) already living in your head? #WeeknightWriters

Hi, #WeeknightWriters! My name is 🐈, and I’m an award-winning alphabet arranger, mostly of works that star disabled protagonists. My #FirstDraftFall planning is mostly random thoughts, not written down. Home renovations this week, so really hard to concentrate. But hiiiii!

If I’m gonna be honest, which like, when am I not, my biggest goals are to turn off the noise of nasty people, hang only with awesome people, and truly get back to the love of writing. I’d love to finish the Iris and the Crew duology and get back to my ’Cosm series! #SpoonieAuthChat
